The desperation of poverty is often the catalyst that forces children into exploitation. But to ensure that they don’t fall back into that same vulnerability after they are rescued, our team in Zimbabwe has to be diligent in tracking economic trends so that we give them the best possible chance of avoiding that desperation in the future. One group of survivors confronted that possibility after vocational training. The survivors had been training to become medical assistants. When the turbulent economy took a turn, the local hospital stopped hiring. Without a job to supply for their needs, the girls faced the same desperate circumstances that led to their exploitation in the first place. But this time, something was different. Every one of our graduates, undaunted by the disappointment, became entrepreneurs! They each picked a niche business, from selling food to setting up a clothing stall, and started working for themselves. During their training, they learned more than just how to be medical assistants. They acquired valuable skills and confidence in their abilities. They were equipped to pivot under duress, making the most of a bad situation. Vocational training is so much more than learning a trade. RESCUE UPDATE: 21 kids rescued in Kenya 21 children, 17 girls and four boys, were rescued from sex trafficking and exploitation The children, all between 7 and 17 years old, have enrolled in Freedom Plans. Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to partner with the Philippines Department of Education and the Learner Rights and Protection Office (LRPO) at an event kicking off the country’s celebration of National Children’s Month! Athena, Destiny Rescue Field Communications Coordinator in the Philippines, presented to over 1,000 students in an effort to equip them to recognize signs of sexual exploitation both online and in person and to know how to report potential trafficking cases. We’re thankful for the work being done in the Philippines to keep kids safe!

RESCUE UPDATE: 89 people rescued from international labor trafficking 89 people are now home after suffering incredible brutality at the hands of international traffickers in Asia. All the people were lured out of their home country by organized criminals with the false promise of good jobs; they were then forced them to work under the constant threat of barbaric punishment.
