The whole #DesirMED team unitied toward a common vision ?? to support the DesirMED Mediterranean regions to achieve their transformation for more climate resilient communities. Our General Assembly followed by the DesirMED Adaptation Day came to an end. Leaving Valencia we carry with us more than just notes and action points - we leave with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging. Over the three past days, we've shared ideas debated challenges, celebrated our achievements and strengthen the bonds that make this project a collective journey. As we are moving forward, we do so with the confidence that our actions matter to the people, to the ecosystems and the future we are striving to protect. A heartfelt thank you to Generalitat Valenciana and TECNALIA Research & Innovation for hosting us! Dynamic Vision PC. Closing a dynamic 2nd Day at the #DesirMED General Assembly! As the second day of the DesirMED General Assembly in Valencia comes to an end, we celebrate a day filled with collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strategic dialogue to accelerate climate resilience in the Mediterranean. The morning began with an exchange of insights from our sister projects, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned in implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), governance innovations, and financing mechanisms. These discussions reinforced the importance of cross-regional collaboration in tackling the pressing climate challenges facing the Mediterranean. Throughout the day, participants engaged in parallel workshops designed to deepen expertise and co-develop solutions in critical areas: ?? Regional governance schemes for climate resilience – exploring policy frameworks and institutional mechanisms that support effective climate action. ?? Financial schemes for NbS – identifying innovative funding models and investment pathways to scale up nature-based solutions. ??Advancing Climate Adaptation and Resilience through Transformational Governance – discussing how systemic governance shifts can drive long-term adaptation. ?? Technical workshops on monitoring, data analysis, and NbS standards – enhancing capacities for evidence-based decision-making and project evaluation. A major highlight of the day was the field visit to El Saler, where participants witnessed forest management strategies for wildfire prevention firsthand. This immersive experience offered valuable insights into how proactive, nature-based interventions can reduce climate risks while preserving biodiversity and supporting local communities. With each discussion, case study, and hands-on learning experience, we are building a stronger foundation for scaling up impactful climate solutions across the Mediterranean. The energy, commitment, and expertise shared today pave the way for more ambitious actions in the days ahead. Tomorrow, we continue our journey - more insights, more innovation, and more collaboration to shape a climate-resilient future! #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateResilience #ClimateAdaptation Generalitat Valenciana TECNALIA Research & Innovation Valenciana d'Estratègies i Recursos per a la Sostenibilitat Ambiental Medi XXI GSA

??Our Regions make the first steps in their transformative adaptation journey for a climate resilient future! The first series of #DesirMED regional workshops aim to create a common regional vision and to conclude on #nbs that will transform each area towards efficient #climatechange adaptation. The workshop held on the 7th of February in Splitsko-dalmatinska ?upanija had a particular focus on Ka?tela Bay and the cities of Split, Solin, Ka?tela, and Trogir. The regional stakeholders co-created their vision for Ka?tela Bay in 2040: connected, safe, sustainable, and green. Proposed solutions included: ?? the installation of floating pontoons to prevent flooding ?? the construction of a "green wall" on the slopes of Kozjak mountain ?? the promotion of permeable surfaces to reduce excessive concrete use ?? the expansion of protected natural areas. Let’s celebrate together the International Wetlands Day! “World Wetlands Day 2025 underscores the need for collaboration and foresight as we build a future wherein all people, everywhere, can continue to benefit from the life-sustaining services that wetlands provide.”, highlighted Dr Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands ?? ?? #Wetlands are nature’s defense system, offering sustainable solutions to big environmental challenges. They act as natural sponges, reducing floods and storing water during droughts. They filter pollutants, improve water quality, and capture carbon, helping combat climate change. In #DesirMED, innovative solutions utilizing the benefits of wetlands are developed and demonstrated. For example, in our Demonstrating Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, a site-specific study of Constructed Wetlands performance as wastewater treatment system is applied.
