    If you know that management is NOT where you want to go TRUST. YOUR. GUT. ?? In this week's Cupalo Conversations jamfest, Alison Gretz founder of Design by Design LLC reminds us that "NO" is a full sentence. Over the past 10 years, I have met SO many incredibly talented craftspeople (I'm looking at YOU) who were SO friggin' good at their craft - software engineering, sales, design, etc. - but were shoehorned into a people-leadership role because that was the only logical next career step. Now, they're miserable. They miss getting their hands dirty. They don't like doing quarterly reviews (I mean, can you blame them?). And they didn't get the training and support they needed to be successful in this new seat. People leadership is a wholly other, all-too-often under-developed skill. Alison addresses the pressure placed on craftspeople to climb the ladder and shares insights into alternative career paths. She advocates for recognizing and valuing individual strengths, emphasizing the importance of allowing professionals to excel in their areas of expertise without imposing rigid career trajectories.
