The DWA Board of Directors voted to continue funding the Delta Conveyance Project during their regular meeting today. The project is vital to the ongoing reliability of water from the State Water Project (SWP), which currently serves around 27 million Californians. DWA is a State Water Project contractor with rights to SWP water. Imported water is used to replenish the region’s groundwater basin. As the state continues to face changing precipitation and weather patterns and risk of natural disasters such as earthquakes, the Delta Conveyance Project is critical to ensuring a safe and dependable water supply. DWA was honored to meet with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) today in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where both agencies are attending the National Water Resources Association annual conference. We discussed DWA initiatives and projects, as well as various funding opportunities. We are grateful to USBR for their historic and current support of DWA’s conservation programs and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) conversion program. The DWA team in attendance included Board President Paul Ortega, Board Director Kristin Bloomer, Finance Director Esther Saenz, MBA and Director of Public Affairs and Conservation Victoria Llort.

Thank you to the City of Palm Springs and utility company Veolia for hosting us on a tour of the City’s wastewater treatment plant today! After the water is treated at the facility, it travels to DWA’s recycled water plant where it is treated again and delivered to our recycled water customers to irrigate areas such as public golf courses, street medians and parks. This partnership helps save valuable drinking water!

Congratulations to DWA Director of Finance Esther Saenz on her appointment as General Manager, effective July 2025, following the upcoming retirement of Steve Johnson. Esther currently serves as Director of Finance at DWA and was selected to succeed Johnson based on her extensive fiscal experience, deep understanding of the Agency’s operations and proven leadership.
