Continuing Education and Professional Development DCMP offers several free online courses to support those who work with students with special needs, and many offer RID and ACVREP credit. The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) provides services designed to support and improve the academic achievement of students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind. These services include (1) a library of free-loan described and captioned educational media, (2) a clearinghouse of information related to educational media access, (3) a gateway to Internet resources related to accessibility, and (4) a center for training and evaluation of any service provider desiring to appear on the DCMP’s approved lists of description and captioning service providers. There are no user registration or service fees. The DCMP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the National Association of the Deaf.

Want to make your classroom more accessible to students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, low vision, or deaf-blind? DCMP is offering free online classes for teachers and other professionals. April 7 - 27, 2025 These classes are pre-approved for 1.5 GS RID CEUs and 15 hours of ACVREP credit. If you have questions please contact Cindy Camp, [email protected]. The following online classes are free of charge to teachers and professionals working with students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, low vision, and deafblind in the K-12 setting. They are facilitated classes with weekly assignments and deadlines but no required meeting times. Using Accessible Media in the?Classroom with Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Using Accessible Media in the?Classroom with Students who are Blind and Visually Impaired Explores the benefits of using media in the classroom. Explains the importance of accessible media for students with sensory impairments as well as students with and without disabilities. Learn to evaluate the quality of accessibility features and various techniques for utilizing media to enhance classroom instruction. This class is three weeks of asynchronous, online training. Choose your preferred time during the week to work online and meet weekly deadlines. Expect to spend approximately five hours per week completing the required work. When you successfully complete the class, you will receive a certificate for 15 continuing education credits. Free of charge and fully accessible.
