?? ?? Exciting News for Des Moines Public Schools! ?? ?? Des Moines Public Schools has been chosen to participate in the Federal Communications Commission’s Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program, securing a significant win for our district. This selection brings a grant of $1.2 million over the next 3 years to support our well-crafted proposal. More than 2,700 institutions applied requesting $3.7B in funding. With an advertised cap at $200million, the FCC had to be very selective. Only 38% of applicants were accepted to the program and among those that applied, Des Moines Public Schools is one of the FEW who received 100% fulfillment of our funding proposal! The financial backing received will enable us to expand on the solid groundwork of cybersecurity and cyber-resiliency laid down in the preceding years. In addition, our involvement in the program promises valuable knowledge exchange within our cohort, fostering the sharing of best practices and insights to collectively enhance our defenses. This MASSIVE achievement underscores the importance of actively pursuing funding opportunities. Initiatives like this play a crucial role in empowering K-12 institutions to tackle contemporary challenges effectively, emphasizing the significance of proactive engagement, meticulous application processes, and strategic foresight. In a recent issue of Technological Horizons in Education, DMPS Director of Technology Lisa Irey shared their 2025 prediction about artificial intelligence. It read, in part, "AI can automate administrative tasks, which means more time for our teachers to focus on instruction and student interaction. Schools will also look to AI to personalize the learning experiences, adapting to each student’s pace and style, making learning more engaging, meaningful, and effective. AI-driven analytics can identify learning gaps and suggest targeted interventions or differentiators for student needs, ensuring all students are appropriately supported and adequately challenged."
