We're taking a moment to honor Dorothea Dix and the mark she left on mental health care. For 40 years, Dix tirelessly advocated for mental health rights and founded 32 mental health institutions. She was a trailblazer in her field, and her impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health challenges cannot be overstated. Dix also became the superintendent of female nurses for the Union Army, where she led a staff of over 6,000 nurses during the Civil War. Her achievements were remarkable for a woman in her time, and her story serves as an inspiration to us all. As we celebrate Women's History Month, let's take a moment to remember Dorothea Dix and her unwavering dedication to mental health advocacy.
