Depaul USA - Los Angeles is a non-profit organization striving to address the challenging issue of homelessness that more than 72,000 men, women, and children experience daily in Los Angeles. Our mission is to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it worldwide. We operate Casa Milagrosa, a day resource center near Westlake. Our reputation of radical hospitality has spread, and we now welcome over 100 guests daily. We treat our guests with dignity and respect in a warm, welcoming facility. We provide case management, breakfast and snacks, laundry, shower access, medical and dental referrals, access to phones and computers, food distribution events, community fairs, and AA meetings. We are working on a focus group at St. Vincent Parish to identify the community's needs and to bring our DAX program to LA. The Dax program addresses college student homelessness by providing stable and safe housing, including those aged out of the foster care system. It provides students with various services that support a successful path toward continuing and completing their studies. We will prepare them to manage their own household and become more productive citizens. At Depaul USA - Los Angeles, we believe that everyone has the potential to achieve great things. We put our words into action and aim to take a broader role in civil society. Our goal is to assist people in getting them to a better state of living, ultimately to have their own accommodation and help them towards a brighter and more dignified future. We will echo these words this Thursday, December 12th when we host our Neighborhood Support Day at Casa Milagrosa. For our Support Days, we invite community partners and organizations to our parking lot to provide the services they offer our guests in a one-stop-shop for those joining us for breakfast. Each year, about 1,000 youth age out of foster care in Los Angeles, with many facing homelessness. It’s #YouthHOPEMonth, an opportunity to raise awareness of the systemic issues that contribute to this crisis as well as the programs that can prevent it. The California Policy Lab’s new report gathers insights from former foster youth and staff, offering key recommendations for policies and programs to help youth transition safely into housing. It is always a pleasure to be able to open our doors to all in our community to help change our world for the better. Continued support from individuals like Noel, and with the assistance of community mainstays like St. Bernard Elementary allow us to continue to change the lives of our guests.
On any given day close to 70,000 souls - including children and college students experience homelessness in Los Angeles County. I was proud that my family joined other families from my son's school, @stbernardschoolla, at Depaul USA - Los Angeles to help them provide services to those members of our community; our work included preparing sandwiches, utensil kits and snack bags, as well as dining room maintenance. It was an incredibly uplifting experience and a tremendously rewarding way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning. #ItTakesAllofUs, #Family
