On September 11, DOB Director Brian Hanlon held an engaging discussion with real estate professionals at the first Seat at the Table Lunch and Learn, sponsored by the DC/MD chapter of NAOIP. He discussed significant process improvements for the District’s permitting system, including the creation of a pop-up permit program and several additional enhancements based on industry feedback. The goal is to shave time off of major projects, enhance tax revenue and boost developer and tenant confidence. He also shared how the agency is emphasizing the need for cultural change, better internal communications, and improved coordination with sister District government agencies to expedite permits.

We're supporting Black-owned businesses all August long during #BlackBusinessMonth. Yesterday, we had a fantastic time touring businesses in Congress Heights and Anacostia in Ward 8. ? Along the way, we met so many inspiring entrepreneurs and encouraged them to participate in the District's Small Business Census. ? When travelling for conferences, I try to reach out to local building departments to network and find new ideas. While in DC last week, I got to meet with the DC Government Department of Buildings senior leadership to find out more about their new initiatives and learn about how they tackle issues that effect building safety and compliance. Special shout-out to Peter Nyabagosi, MCEP, CCEA, CBO and Ashley Delgado who scheduled the meeting and kept me from getting lost!
