Today, the Health Products and Technologies Unit held a training that aimed at empowering the Hospital Medicines and Therapeutics Committees (HMTC) members to carry out their mandates effectively. Key objectives of the training also included; ??Outline the goals, objectives, functions and mandate of HMTCs ??Discuss the rationale for establishing MTC ??Deliberate the principles of setting MTCs ??Discuss the stepwise approach in establishing MTC ??Outline the composition & terms of reference of HMTCs ??Core indicators of MTC impact Inappropriate use of Health Products and Technologies is a widespread problem at all levels of health care. Consequently, these inappropriate practices result in losses and wastages, which ultimately reduce access. A functional Hospital Medicines and Therapeutics Committee (MTC) can address most of the challenges related to inappropriate HPT use and promote a culture of safety. Participants included members of the Hospital Medicines and Therapeutics Committee drawn from Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital and the MTCs chairperson and secretary of CGTRH outreaches of Utange Field Hospital, Chaani Hospital, Vikwatani Hospital and Mtongwe Hospital. Other participants were from Nyali Sub-county and the County communication department. The training was supported by USAID Kenya - Stawisha Pwani
