  • In line with ongoing efforts to improve child health and nutrition in Mombasa, Jomvu and Changamwe Sub-Counties held a two-day training for healthcare workers. This training is critical as we transition to new protocols and strategies to maintain the impact of health interventions on our children, especially in the face of changing partner support. We work together to improve health outcomes for our community. Helen Keller Intl

  • In partnership with the Aga Khan University, University of Manitoba, we conducted a study titled, Women in Health and their Economic, Equity, and livelihood statuses during Emergency and Response (WHEELER), in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties. The study investigated the impact of COVID-19 and its mitigation measures on female paid and unpaid Health Care Providers (HCPs) and how the pandemic affected the health workforce across all levels of Kenya’s health care system. The study has achieved significant progress after collecting qualitative and quantitative data. We are disseminating by use of theatre arts to reach a greater audience. The findings will be presented through theatre by the Social Arts for Social Change group (SAFE) to reflect on stories and experiences of paid and unpaid healthcare workers through the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The Department in partnership with Helen Keller Intl is conducting a two-day training in Mvita Sub-County to cascade the integration of Vitamin A Supplementation and Deworming (VAS+D) guidelines. This initiative is aimed at facility in-charges, facility nutritionists, and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) nurses. The training objective is to strengthen the implementation of VAS+D programs across healthcare facilities, ensuring that children receive essential vitamin A supplementation and deworming services to improve health outcomes. By providing healthcare providers with updated knowledge and skills on VAS+D guidelines, the training aims at promoting consistent service delivery, reducing vitamin A deficiency, and preventing parasitic infections among children. This initiative is expected to increase the reach of these critical services, support child growth, and ultimately enhance good nutrition outcomes.

  • Today we commemorated World Prematurity Day at Likoni Sub-County Hospital. The day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the increasing burden of preterm births, related morbidity and mortality, and cost-effective interventions that can prevent the complications of prematurity and improve outcomes of preterm babies. Those in attendance were taken through kangaroo mother care and the importance of skin-to-skin care for both preterm and term babies. A testimony was given by a mother who had a preterm baby one year ago and the baby is doing very well. Mothers were gifted with assorted goodies.

  • Join Us Tomorrow for a Walk to Create Awareness on Diabetes! Diabetes, one of the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), is a gradual and silent killer. Alarmingly, 60% of diabetes patients are unaware of their condition. Regular check-ups are critical because early detection saves lives. Physical activity and a healthy diet are also essential in preventing diabetes. Let’s come out in large numbers to show our support! Together, we can make a difference. See the poster for more details. #DiabetesAwareness #HealthForAll #PreventDiabetes #StayHealthy

The Department, with support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative, organized the training of two cohort classes, which took three days each. A total of 43 Health care workers were invited from different facilities across the County.
