On this date in 1942, a fire at the Cocoanut Grove in Boston claimed 490 lives -- the deadliest nightclub fire in history. The tragedy also led to advances in Massachusetts fire protection through a new body, the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations, which continues its work today through the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code.

A safe and happy #Thanksgiving to all our friends and families! As we settle in to give thanks today, please spare a moment to remember all our first responders, medical professionals, active-duty military, frontline workers, and others who are away from their loved ones today.

#Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for Massachusetts firefighters, with more than twice as many residential fires as any other day. Many of them start with a grease fire in pots and pans. Extinguish these fires safely by covering them with a lid or cookie sheet and turning off the heat. Don't try to move the pan or douse it with water: this is more likely to spread the flames! More than twice as many fires are reported at home on #Thanksgiving as on the next leading day -- and almost all of them start in the kitchen. #KeepItClean and reduce the risk of cooking fires! Clean up grease spills and move groceries, food packaging, towels, etc, away from the stovetop. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ehhhSGg8

#TechRescue Tuesday: The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy recently delivered the updated Rope Rescue Technician course at the #ColrainMA Fire Department. More than 20 firefighters from across Massachusetts built on the skills developed in the Operational level course, mastering advanced concepts and the program's new tensioned line systems portion. Great work by all our students! Thank you as always to our hosts, instructors, and support staff!

Massachusetts sees twice as many residential fires on #Thanksgiving as on any other day of the year. Unattended cooking is the #1 cause. Remember to #StandByYourPan when boiling, broiling, frying, or roasting this year! Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehhhSGg8
