How to fix double chins in camera There’s nothing like a double chin to take the shine off a photo. Our Founder has graciously volunteered herself to demonstrate. Hey photographers - we’re here to help you fix a definite photo ruiner. - Adjust the feet first: Comfort is key. Have your client turn slightly and gently shift their weight onto their front foot and then slightly lean their chin into the camera. But be careful! We don’t want them leaning in too far—it should feel natural, not cheesy. I also always recommend telling them what you’re doing, because this can feel awkward. - The Turtle Technique: If a double chin is still lingering, explain that this next part may feel awkward. Ask them to “turtle” their neck forward. Make sure this feels lighthearted to keep the atmosphere relaxed and lead with empathy. - Shoot from a higher angle: Many clients feel more confident when you shoot from above. This angle slims the face and minimizes chin concerns. - Use top-down lighting: Dramatic lighting from above helps accentuate the jawline and reduces the appearance of the neck. - Wear a dark shirt: A dark shirt gives negative fill, and brings less attention to your chin area. And if all else fails, editors have some tricks up their sleeves to minimize, and even diminish your double chin. She came into the studio with a clear vision, great energy, and even greater style. Her company, Bright Advisors, is a financial planning and investment management company targeted specifically toward high-achieving women. She had a headshot she liked, but she knew it was time for an update since it had been a few years. Plus, she was doing a total rebrand for her business. She had clearly done a lot of work honing in on her brand: "I'm your rich auntie who gives you money advice!" She wanted to appear professional, but not stodgy, like she was someone you could sit down with and talk money... And your relationship... And that great new sushi restaurant you tried. She had brought a few outfits that all were stylish and felt very luxurious. Her look showed a lot of personality, so I knew we'd be able to try all kinds of shots, from the more traditional to the more casual, without her looking off brand. Our session was so much fun! She was easy to direct and willing to try all that I suggested, but she also had a clear vision of what she liked and didn't like and offered some great suggestions herself (the leather chair in the hallway was her brilliant suggestion).
