We are honored to share that John H. Yee has been awarded the People’s Republic of China Commemorative Medal, recognizing his outstanding contributions before and during the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Born in Kunming in 1921, Mr. Yee served as a translator for the Flying Tigers during WWII and later as a lieutenant in the Chinese Air Force, working closely with General Claire Chennault and the U.S. Air Force. His service led him to Denver, where he helped establish the Denver-Kunming Sister City relationship in 1986, serving as a vital “bridge” between the two cities and cultures. Until his passing in 2018, Mr. Yee was celebrated as a leader for his many contributions to the Denver community and his continued efforts in fostering global diplomacy.
