Service Above Self

关于我们

The Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary Club has been providing financial support and building goodwill in our community for more than 30 years. While supporting Rotary goals on a worldwide level, the Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary Club spends a majority of their fundraising efforts on local programs, providing donations to the Adamstown and Ephrata Public Libraries, Cocalico and Ephrata Education Foundations, and Ephrata Area Social Services, among others. We also provide college scholarships, send high-school students to summer leadership development programs and host weekly programs of guest speakers from leaders within our community. The main objective of Rotary is service – with the Rotary motto being “Service above self” – in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. As such, Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, including the availability of clean water, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and the worldwide eradication of polio. The effort to eradicate polio has led to a 99% eradication rate, with only pockets of the disease remaining in small areas of Africa & Asia. This effort, led by Rotary in conjunction with other worldwide organizations, has encouraged the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to give Rotary a total of $335 million in financial support towards polio eradication. Rotarians also support programs for youth education and reading, youth leadership development, youth professional career development and international exchanges in an effort to build tomorrow’s leaders, today.

  • This morning, we had the privilege of hearing about two remarkable successes from the Ephrata Area School District. First, Ava Knopsyder, Ephrata’s Student of the Month, shared her impressive volunteer work and projects. An accomplished student, Ava is actively involved in several organizations, including the National Art Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, and National German Honor Society. Her passion for competitive swimming will take her to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she plans to major in Health Sciences with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. Rotarian Crystal Smeltzer introduced educators Josh Clair and Fred Geyer who presented Every 15 Minutes, a powerful program that raises awareness about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. Ephrata Area SD is the only district in the county to fully implement this impactful two-day initiative. Through realistic simulations of car accidents, the program challenges students to confront the tragic consequences of preventable decisions, reinforcing the importance of safe driving. #ServiceAboveSelf

  • ????. ROTARY AWARENESS ???? February is a special month for the Rotary community as it is designated as Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month. During this time, Rotarians across the world celebrate their commitment to promoting peace and resolving conflicts Conflict and violence are unfortunately all too common in our world, leading to displacement and suffering for millions of people, particularly women and children. The Rotary family is dedicated to addressing the root causes of conflict, such as poverty, lack of education, and unequal distribution of resources, and works tirelessly to build peace and prevent conflicts from escalating. Rotarians provide training to adults and young leaders to help prevent and mediate conflicts and offer aid to refugees who have fled dangerous areas. During this month, Rotarians take the time to reflect on their efforts and recommit to promoting peace and reducing conflict in their communities and beyond. Through their efforts, Rotarians are helping to create a brighter, more peaceful future for us all.

  • Remembering Jan and Jan's Circle Of Friends “why” On July 22nd, 2008, our beloved mother, sister and friend died at the cruel hand of domestic violence. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of her loss was that her four children were left without the guidance and love she always provided through her unwavering parental support. Shocked by her tragic passing, yet inspired by her dedication to her children and the community, Jan's Circle of Friends was created to provide assistance to victims of domestic violence and parental loss. A 1981 graduate of Cocalico High School and 1985 graduate of Penn State University, Jan was employed as the Branch Manager of Fulton Bank, Reinholds until the birth of her second child in 1995. She was actively involved in various charitable and community organizations until the end of her life. Jan served faithfully as a Denver Fair Committee Member, East Cocalico Swim Team President and Treasurer of the Cocalico Creek Watershed. She loved gardening, animals, yoga and fitness, but nothing filled her heart with joy more than children. Thank you to Susan van Zant & Alissa Sweigert for presenting to our club this week! Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary Club is proud to support the mission of your organization. ?? https://lnkd.in/ek4zZwQq
