???? Are you burnt out on your job search?
I work primarily with technology professionals and execs who are facing a challenging market for the first time in their careers.
?? Long searches, multiple failed interviews, and lack of response are now the reality for tech job seekers and it can feel daunting to stay motivated and committed to a search.
It's easy to feel isolated in these struggles, but remember, you’re not alone. Many are navigating these same choppy waters.
I’ve had this conversation A LOT in the past few weeks, so misery definitely has some company. ??
Here’s what I’ve been suggesting to help maintain momentum and keep your head above water:
? Set Small, Achievable Goals
Break your large goal of landing a job into smaller, manageable tasks like networking with three new people each week or improving a specific skill. Small wins can provide a sense of progress and control.
? Schedule Breaks
Create a routine and schedule for your search, so you have guardrails and accountability to do the work - and freedom to step away from your job search to recharge. Grinding away is a sure fire way to fry yourself.
? Seek Feedback
You may not always get it, but even a small piece of feedback after interviews that don’t pan out helps you improve. It can also open other doors with the same employer, so you really have nothing to lose by trying!
? Stay Connected
Engage with professional groups, attend tech meetups, or participate in webinars. Staying engaged with your community can lead to opportunities and offer the emotional support of peers who understand what you’re going through - there is a reason y’all love the book titled Never Sesrch Alone. ??
? Adjust Expectations
The days of dozens of recruiter hits, one interview, and a job offer in 6 weeks are probably behind us, so having realistic expectations of the timeline it’ll take to land a new role is important. Be flexible, be open to new tech domains, and consider a lateral move if you need to make something happen more quickly.
Summary: consistency and persistence are key.
???? With the right strategy and support, you will through this and you will land!
If you need a sounding board or strategic advice, you know where to find me! ????
