关于我们

Green inside and out, Denver Botanic Gardens is considered one of the top botanical gardens in the United States and a pioneer in water conservation. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Gardens’ living collections encompass specimens from the tropics to the tundra, showcasing a plant palette chosen to thrive in Colorado’s semi-arid climate. The Gardens' dynamic, 24-acre urban oasis in the heart of the city, offers unforgettable opportunities to flourish with unique garden experiences for the whole family – as well as world-class education and plant conservation research programs. Additional sites at Chatfield Farms, a 700-acre wildlife and native plant refuge in Jefferson County; and Mount Goliath, a high-altitude trail and interpretive site on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, extend this experience throughout the Front Range.

The City and County of Denver recently unveiled its latest community solar project at Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms. Constructed by McKinstry, the new solar garden is one of the largest agrivoltaics projects in the nation, combining agriculture and solar photovoltaic panels into a cutting-edge system. The clean energy fully powers the site with 100% renewable energy; increases crop production, provides shade and reduces water usage; and also donates electricity to families that need relief on their utility bills. An estimated 30,000+ pounds of fresh produce will be produced annually and shared with community members in need via local partner organizations and no cost food grocery programs: https://lnkd.in/geXzsWHH

Meet the "Three Sisters." Maize. Beans. Squash. This planting method was developed by Indigenous communities in Mesoamerica more than 3,000 years ago and continues to be implemented in contemporary agriculture, at Denver Botanic Gardens' Chatfield Farms and York Street locations! Modern crop scientists have shown that when grown together, the three sisters produce more protein and energy in the same space compared to monoculture techniques, and don’t require frequent crop rotations. Many traditions include a fourth sister, although the species varies between regions and communities. In the southwest, Bee Plant is often incorporated to attract pollinators, also providing edible leaves, flowers and pods. Other companions include amaranth and sunflower. The "Three Sisters" are testament to the ancestral knowledge of indigenous communities and their connection to the land. Denver Botanic Gardens acknowledges the land known as Colorado, and sites of our operations and plant research around the world, are traditional homelands of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial. We have much to learn from their deep relationships to and intricate knowledge of this land. The scientific study of biodiversity is the foundation of botanic gardens. #nativeamericanheritagemonth
