Delaware Registered Nurse, Julia Kay, and her son, Sean, were onboard AA flight 5342 when it collided with a military helicopter on January 29th. We are in shock and mourning the loss of this dedicated mother and nurse. The University of Delaware Figure Skating Club has organized a memorial today from 10am-12pm at the ice-skating rink in Newark. Please join us and the Delaware Board of Nursing in honoring and remembering a nursing legend that has passed away. Dr. Lucille Gambardella made an indelible mark on Delaware's nursing community, history, and landscape. Dr. Gambardella served as President of DNA (1993-1994) and the Delaware Board of Nursing (2005-2007). After moving to Delaware in 1983, she started teaching in Wesley College's Department of Nursing. She served as Department Chair & Professor from 1996-2012. She was one of two Delaware Nurses that were the first to pass the inaugural Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification from the National League for Nursing. In 2016, Dr. Gambardella was recognized as a Nursing Legend by Delaware Today and the Delaware Nurses Association. We extend our sympathy and support to Dr. Gambardella's family, friends, and colleagues. DNA worked with the Lt. Governor's office and House of Representatives leadership to issue state proclamations honoring Dr. Gambardella. Dr. Gambardella's services will be held Saturday, December 7th in Lewes. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Dr. Gambardella are encouraged to donate to the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
