Booking a hotel room? You’re more likely to do it online than call a travel agent. The same principle seems to apply for meeting rooms. One company tried a “concierge” approach to booking large meeting rooms (6+ people), thinking it would make big, strategic discussions easier to facilitate. One person was entrusted with making sure the right people were in the room. The reality? Fewer meetings happened. ? When employees could self-book, meeting rooms were used by large groups nearly half of the time (46%) ? When they had to go through a human “gatekeeper,” large-group usage dropped to 27% of the time Having a person in charge of room bookings didn’t curb ”squatting,” either. informal, unscheduled use of rooms was actually higher for managed rooms than self-booked ones. The takeaway? Convenience beats curation. If you make scheduling harder, people will simply meet less. This client is rethinking their approach—should you?

In-office work is making a comeback. If your company isn’t there yet, it might be soon. But moving from remote/hybrid to in-office isn’t easy. If it’s not handled well, it can tank productivity—and morale. At Density, we’ve helped top companies navigate RTO—and we’ve done it ourselves, shifting to a 4-day in-office model earlier this year. From our experience and our customers’, here are 5 ???????????????????? that make RTO ???????????????? work: ?? ? ?????? ?? ?????????? ????????????—?????? ?????????? ???? ????. No ambiguity. Define the expectations, align leadership and make it super easy for teams to collaborate. ? ?????????? ???????????? ????????, ????????, ????????????. Flexibility matters. Thoughtful approaches (like core hours in the office that leave room for commutes and life’s chaos) get you more buy-in. ? ???????????? ?? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???? ???? ????. If your office is uninspiring or empty, people won’t want to come back. Design for collaboration ?????? focus. ? ?????? ???????? ???? ???????????????? ??????. The way employees use offices has changed. Analyze real workplace behaviors to make decisions about how to set up your spaces. ? ???????? ????-???????????? ?????????????????????????? ???????? ???? ???????? ??????????????. Plan moments that highlight the benefits of in-person work. Have execs need to lead by example—by showing up at the office. Want to dive deeper into making RTO a success? Lumon Industries might be onto something. If you’re looking for deep-focus work, the flywheel desk configuration is your best bet. Sound familiar? You may recognize it as the desk set-up used by the MDR team in Severance. To be clear, we’re not holding Lumon up as a model for workplace best practices. But new research from Density with one of our major customers found that employees at flywheel desks stayed focused 17% longer than those in other setups. Flywheeled employees averaged 69 minutes per session compared to 59 minutes for desks arranged in a bench and just 56 minutes for curved layouts. Why? It turns out that when people need to buckle down, acoustic and visual privacy panels between desks help them stay focused and minimize distractions. Sure, flywheel setups take up more room than a classic desk arrangement. But if you’re working on something important—even if it’s not as intense as Cold Harbor—it might be worth the extra space. Would you want to work at a flywheel desk? Or are you sticking with the classic setup?

Honest take from Density CEO Andrew Farah on the return to office movement in Business Insider (https://hubs.la/Q036Fr680). Not everyone likes RTO. But at Density, surveys show having employees come into the office four days a week has an upside. The change has helped increase team alignment and the speed of product development! ?
