In addition to its design or function, every structure tells a story throughout its whole life cycle, from conception to deconstruction. This voyage has a significant impact on our world. It affects everything from the resources used while building it, the energy consumed while standing, and eventually what happens when it’s time to say goodbye. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) helps provide a clearer picture. View the LCA as a building's report card which reveals how environmentally conscious and efficient it is at each stage of its life: Materials: Checks if the materials used are good for the planet. Construction: Measures the energy needed to build it. Use: Assesses how energy-efficient the building is during its use. End of Life: Considers the impact of dismantling or repurposing the building. By assessing a structure from all sides, the LCA helps us make decisions that reduce our environmental impact. It helps people make deliberate and ethical choices for the environment at every stage of a building's life. Why go Demi? Excited to share that demi has been selected as one of five Food & Ag finalists for the #RALLY2024 IN-Prize Pitch Competition! ????

Building a sustainable future extends beyond reducing environmental impacts. It's rooted in deeply understanding and applying four key pillars, each of which are critical and interconnected: 1. Energy Efficiency is the foundation of a green construction.This begins with constructing buildings that make optimal use of natural resources, such as utilizing sunlight for both warmth and to naturally illuminate interiors during the day, and leveraging wind for natural cooling. It entails using technology to ensure that every kilowatt of electricity and every BTU of heat is utilized as efficiently as possible. Consider it the building's metabolism, ensuring that it works efficiently and without wasting energy. 2. Material Sustainability focuses on the building's bones. It involves selecting materials that are recyclable, responsibly sourced, and/or created with minimum environmental impact. This stage is critical because it evaluates the entire lifecycle of materials, from manufacturing to disposal, ensuring the building's structure contributes to its sustainability. 3. Water Conservation means viewing water as a valuable resource. This includes water-saving technology such as low-flow fixtures, as well as novel reuse tactics like greywater irrigation. Buildings that value every drop of water can significantly lower their water footprint and help preserve this crucial resource for future generations. 4. Environmental Quality focuses on keeping the people living in buildings, and the world around them, healthy and happy. This means making sure the air inside is clean with good airflow, letting in lots of natural light to boost moods, and creating green spaces where people can relax. This pillar is key because it's all about creating places that people enjoy. At Demi, we're broadening the scope of Material Sustainability. By collecting compostable waste, we not only minimize landfill waste but also contribute to creating sustainable materials through soil regeneration.
