Ramadan is a special time for Muslims around the world, but it may pose unique challenges for families living with dementia. ?? Here are some tips to help you observe Ramadan if you're caring for someone with dementia: ??? Maintain routine and consistency as much as possible, for example regular sleep patterns and engaging in familiar activities. ?? Take time to reflect on how you're feeling and on your energy levels. ?? Make adaptations for the person living with dementia. Do they remember it's Ramadan? Will they be able to engage in activities such as fasting and prayers? ?? Share memories of past Ramadans with your loved ones. While no two dementia journeys are the same, feelings of guilt are common to so many living with dementia. ?? Guilt can affect people in different ways and there is no one size fits all approach to dealing with it. But a first step that can be taken is to acknowledge the feelings instead of pushing them away, and to understand that you’re not alone in this experience. We’ve developed a content series focused specifically on the crossover between guilt and dementia. We hear from people about their experiences, and offer advice from our Chief Admiral Nurse, Hilda Hayo. ?? https://lnkd.in/eHKwhHNk #Dementia #DementiaCare #Carer

"As with so much of the dementia journey, 2024 was filled with ups and downs. A huge highlight for both of us was taking part in the London Marathon in late April. This has always been a bucket list item for both Christine and I, and it lived up to all of our expectations. It really is such an emotional event. Doing it together, and representing Dementia UK, meant the world. However it has also been an emotional year. On a bad day, it’s not just the confusion or forgetting names. It’s the anger. The tears. I used to feel weak, even pathetic, if I got emotional. Not anymore. I’ve learned to let the tears flow on a bad day. Sometimes I just need a good cry. Christine and I have made a pact that we won’t hide the tears and anger from each other. Her support means everything to me. How many people tell their partners that they love them every day? One of the silver linings of dementia is we no longer wait to do things. It’s about adjusting your priorities and cherishing the people you love." ?? We caught up with Andy and Christine one year after they took part in our 'We live with dementia' campaign. Does their story resonate with you? Share your thoughts in the comments. ?? #WeLiveWithDementia #DementiaUK #YoungOnsetDementia
