    And now, for my first piece of zero-click content: a case study! Except this one covers a different story than the one I told last week. Imagine you're building a bank for ecommerce companies in North America, but you're overwhelmed by the sheer market potential and need to figure out where to focus. Oh yeah — and you're not based in North America, but in Ireland. ???? That's the story of Hamilton Rock. By leveraging customer discovery and market research, we helped the founder understand the core differences between market opportunities and also understand the requirements in order for new customers to switch banks (which - spoilers - was a lot more than originally anticipated!).     STOP ?? using the Likert scale in your surveys if you want to be able to prioritize the insights later. What's a Likert scale? It's those questions everyone always puts in their surveys that tell you to rank so-and-so attribute on a scale of 1 through 5 with 5 being the highest. Likert scales can't tell us *why* something was important to the respondent, but it may also fall prey to the "central tendency bias" which is the natural tendency respondents have to just pick the middle option. So then you, the marketer or researcher or product analyst, end up with a chart that tells you the average range of all these Likert scale values that don't have as much meaning. For example, what's really the difference between a 4.85 and a 4.5 when you average the whole thing out and compare it to how other attributes ranked? That's where adjusting your Likert scale to a MaxDiff question is a much better option, and I cover the whole thing in this week's newsletter. Check the comments below for a link to the full post.
