Last night, we celebrated our Teacher Signing Day, marking an exciting milestone as several student teachers officially signed contracts to begin their careers with DVISD! After spending the past few months in classrooms across the district, they've had the opportunity to get to know our schools and community. We're thrilled that they have chosen to stay and continue their journey here. Jaylen Spence, a DVHS alumnus, is now a senior at Huston-Tillotson University, where he forms part of the Apple Pre-Ed Scholars Program. The program is designed to inspire more young Black men to pursue careers in education and work in the communities in which they come from. Jaylen is already connecting with DVHS students and introducing them to full-ride scholarship opportunities available just down the road in East Austin. After he graduates, he aspires to return to DVHS as an educator. He seeks to inspire more young people to attend college or enter a technical program where they can become successful individuals right here in Austin. Jaylen was recently featured on KVUE for his commitment to helping his community succeed in high school and into college. You can watch the full story at the link below.
