Biologists agree that a 15 to 20 percent nest success rate is essential for simply maintaining the waterfowl population that returns to the breeding grounds in the spring. However, in many key areas of the prairie, nest success comes in well below 10 percent, largely due to the impact of nest predators. During the 2025 breeding season, Delta will oversee a record number of sites strategically placed across five key PPR regions for breeding ducks: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, North Dakota, and South Dakota. ?? The latest Waterfowl Breeding Habitat Conditions map presented by Fiocchi of America shows several changes as ducks have started to migrate north. ???? Compared to our last update, Western states have gained some moisture as several weather systems moved from British Columbia down to northern California and across Central Montana during the month. The PPR, however, has seen a slight decline in conditions due to a lack of precipitation over the past few weeks. Conditions from the Mississippi River eastward have remained stable; meanwhile, good to excellent conditions remain across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime provinces. Nevertheless, more precipitation should be on every waterfowler's wishlist this spring to provide ducks and geese with quality habitat, enhancing their breeding success.

The stage is set! ???? Delta Waterfowl's Hen House delivery specialists have meticulously installed and maintained their Hen Houses to ensure they are in excellent condition for nesting hens this spring.

We would like to invite you to celebrate the 91st anniversary of enacting the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp Act! ???? Since 1934, Federal Duck Stamps have been raising funds for the conservation of wetland habitats, migratory birds, and countless other wildlife species within the National Wildlife Refuge system. Having generated over $1.2 billion in sales to date, Duck Stamp funds have been used to conserve more than 6 million acres of wetlands. Every year, the purchase of $25 Duck Stamps helps generate over $37.5 million to protect and preserve vital wetland habitats. It is worth noting that 98 cents of every dollar received through the sale of these stamps goes directly toward conservation efforts. Did you know there is also a Delta Waterfowl connection to this incredible program since unsung conservation pioneer and founding father Frederic Walcott was a major driving force behind the introduction of this act?
