Yesterday I had the opportunity to bring in my Delta Kappa Alpha fraternity sister to job shadow me at work! When I was a senior at The University of Tampa, I was the President of the chapter, and Stephanie is the current chapter president. We had recently made contact, and discussed her coming to visit so she could see how the news world works! I was happy to have her come see how my job as an editor works, and she even got to witness two crazy breaking news stories happen! Helping others, and providing opportunities to see and experience possible career paths is extremely important to me, and I wanted to make sure I gave someone that opportunity! Grateful to my boss & 11Alive for allowing us this opportunity, and offering some great advice to Stephanie as she gets ready to start her final year in school!

Last month, I had the opportunity to showcase my short film Triage at the Salt City International Film Festival hosted by Syracuse Delta Kappa Alpha. Thank you to Isa Mooney and Jaden Huynh for the opportunity and for putting on an excellent festival! It was great to see so many people's efforts shine in the final product. Of course, a huge thank you to EP Evan Suk and DP Nicholas Bond for all their hard work - none of this would be possible without them. Look for Triage in various film festivals around the country! Excited to share it here afterwards.

In February, I had the privilege of stepping into the role of recruitment co-chair with Gwynne Valencia for our professional gender-inclusive film fraternity Delta Kappa Alpha. Over the course of a month, we organized nine recruitment events, including a professional mixer, an alumni panel, and an interview. Our goal was to create an immersive experience that brought together people from different backgrounds who share a love for film. What made it truly special was the opportunity it provided for genuine connection and networking. We hoped to bring a platform to have a immersive experience designed to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds under a shared passion for film. With dedicated active members and an extraordinary advertising team, we recruited about a hundred new members. This experience gave me insights into budgeting, event planning, and the art of creating lasting memories. I emerged from the experience with a broader perspective and a newfound confidence in my event organizational abilities. As I reflect on this chapter, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to lead and contribute to such a dynamic and inclusive community. I want to thank the entire Chapman DKA Zeta chapter?for trusting us, our president Jacqueline Cheng, vice president Chiana Chuc, former recruitment co-chair Thi Chu and Rithika Vighne, and for helping us along the way by providing insightful suggestions. #throwbackthursday #yoursindelta

Giving back to the communities that helped shape me is a gift. This weekend, I got the opportunity to speak with students at my former high school, Lowell High School, for their career day. Just this year, they started their first film club. A few months ago, I spoke with students in the cinematic fraternity Delta Kappa Alpha, of which I was a founding member at Boston University. I am excited to see what Gen Z will bring to the entertainment community. They are so eager and creative.

I am so excited that my short film, A Ripple, is screening tomorrow at the Salt City Film Festival in Syracuse! It is an honor for my work to be shown at the festival alongside the amazingly talented student filmmakers at Syracuse University, including my friends in Delta Kappa Alpha!

After nearly a year-long undertaking, I am excited to finally announce that the first ever DKA Gala for Southern California members will take place this April 13th with our guest speaker, Oscar-nominated Screenwriter Meg LeFauve! As Interchapter Chair for Theta Chapter(Loyola Marymount University) last semester, I laid the groundwork for this event in collaboration with JT Salcido and Siane Fran?ois from Zeta Chapter(Chapman University) who first pitched the idea and invited me onto their planning team. It is thanks to their constant communication, coordinating, and strong vision for the Gala that we are able to host this event with such a renowned guest speaker. As I transitioned out of the Interchapter role this semester and stepped into the role of Gala Lead, my work on this event received a major boost with the additional help of my successor to the Interchapter position, Will Kanny, as well as my friend and fellow Theta member Mani Angeles who took on Gala Lead positions alongside me and the existing team. Both Will and Mani demonstrated the leadership skills needed to execute this event as they took significant steps towards preparing the venue, catering, and programming. Without the help of this team and the guidance of our National representatives Cory Darling and Ian Donovan Hyland, this event would not be possible. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in this event. I am so excited to have seen JT's idea for the DKA Gala come to fruition, and look forward to seeing as many active and alumni DeKAs this weekend! Tickets are available for purchase.

The year is coming to a close and I would like to express my gratitude for what has been made possible in 2023 that has been better than I could have imagined. As we wrap shooting (yay!) and take post-production into 2024, I would sincerely like to thank executive producer and life-long community Delta Kappa Alpha for the incredible opportunity to bring my multimedia short film, Being, to fruition. I could not have achieved such great progress in the pre and on-set production processes without the generous funding award from DKA and Being’s immensely talented cast and crew, who so generously lent their time, resources, and skills. This film is a labor of love for so many people, and I cannot wait to honor that throughout the post-production process where we will see everything come together. Our crew’s skillsets have extraordinary and diverse range, and I feel so honored to have worked with such multifaceted artists across different mediums and areas of expertise. Having not screen-written or directed since high school, I am extremely fortunate to be able to write, direct, and oversee the whole process—from pitch to final product. I’ve learnt vital lessons in organization, teamwork, logistical and on-the-spot thinking, and stretching my creativity to mediums I have never thought in before. I cannot wait to continue learning more as we bring this project into the new year! I am so thrilled to be able to continue to bring this cross-medium, existential, magical, personal, quirky film to life. ???? Extra thanks to SenovvA for being so generous to let us use their awesome, top of the line soundstage and for all of their absolutely invaluable help.?
