New data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) shows Mississippi posted the highest gains in fourth grade reading scores in the nation in 2024! DHA is proud to work with Delta schools and students through programs like Literacy Fellows in our Promise Communities to improve student reading achievements that contribute to this success. For example, our data shows that first attempt passage rates on the third grade reading exam in Leflore County schools with DHA's Literacy Fellows program have increased substantially since the Leflore Promise Community began, helping to set students up for success on the fourth grade NAEP assessment a year later. The state also recorded the highest ever percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced in fourth grade reading, fourth grade math, eighth grade reading, and eight grade math. This is a testament to the hard work of teachers, parents, students, and educational organizations across the state to improve the academic success and future opportunities for children in Mississippi. https://lnkd.in/erVrYpaY

Delta Health Alliance is a non-profit organization that is changing health care and education in Mississippi
关于我们
Delta Health Alliance was founded in 2001 to support community-based healthcare initiatives that would target critical health and wellness in the Mississippi Delta. DHA functions by coordinating the delivery of healthcare programs communities can access, providing targeted education and training to facilitate consistency across providers, and facilitating translational research to replicate evidence-based healthcare programs that work. In order to create successful communities across the Delta, DHA works closely with its partner organizations to increase adult literacy, enforce early childhood interventions, provide appropriate healthcare, and enhance workforce development. Here are a few of the challenges DHA has been helping Delta residents address. Obesity rates are higher than a third of the nation’s population. Many chronic conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, are 50 percent above national average. More infants in the Delta die before they are one year old than anywhere else in the United States (as a percentage of total population). The number of health care providers serving the Delta has been shrinking while the cost of medical care and prescription drugs has been rising. Responding to these challenges requires new approaches, different approaches. To find out how DHA is tackling these challenges please visit our site!

We are thrilled to welcome another community to the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading - Deer Creek Reads in Mississippi. In June, the community offered a Literacy Summer Camp with Delta Health Alliance. Students worked on fluency, phonemic awareness and enjoyed book studies of The Wolf, The Duck, & The Mouse; Salt in His Shoes; and Because of Winn Dixie. #DeerCreekREADS
