This year’s AHR Show in Orlando was a huge success! We launched our newest cooling tower design: the TMX series – our largest tower yet. It was such a pleasure for our team to see so many of you in person and answer your questions about the new TMX series. The tower’s sump is over 20 feet long and molded from a single, seamless piece of engineered plastic. That led to many questions about how and where we build them. The fact is, the TMX series is so large that we had to build a brand-new factory in West Virginia just to house the largest molding equipment of its kind in North America. We also had people asking if the new series had the same advantages as our other HDPE cooling tower designs. Good news… yes, it does. All our towers are built without joints, seams, or welds that are prone to leaks and maintenance issues while delivering greater cooling capacities. The towers also meet the ASHRAE 90.1 energy efficiency standard for all models from 300 to 3,250 cooling tons. Coming in at over 20 feet long, the tower’s sump is molded from a single, seamless piece of engineered plastic. The towers meet the ASHRAE 90.1 energy efficiency standard for all models from 300 to 3,250 cooling tons. The TMX series offers the same features as all our engineered plastic designs: a corrosion-resistant material with no joints, seams, or welds which are prone to leaks and maintenance issues. These larger engineered plastic designs can be manufactured with special antimicrobial resins that are fully compounded into the base cooling tower structural material as well as the casing, fill and drift eliminator – effectively inhibiting harmful microbial growth. Our cooling towers require less energy to operate. There are a number of reasons for this, but a big one comes from the engineered plastic cooling tower’s variable frequency drives (VFD) which allow the fan speed to vary so that the units do not run at max RPM except when necessary. Depending on the application, this alone can result in significant energy savings. In fact, an independent report by the New York Power Authority estimated almost a 40 percent decrease in electrical consumption when using our cooling towers with VFDs. Ready to save? Turning down the volume… Noise pollution is a growing concern when it comes to cooling towers. At the GE Aerospace plant in Ohio, the new cooling towers were set to go up between two large buildings. Since cooling towers are sometimes compared to the sound of a jet engine, the facility management was concerned that a significant echo could reverberate throughout the industrial park. To combat the potential noise issue, the engineering firm decided it would be best to elevate the towers so that they sit closer to the roofline of the buildings. However, after installing our engineered plastic cooling towers, they realized noise was never going to be an issue. “The towers look great sitting up on those platforms, but in hindsight, we did not even need to raise them up because they run whisper quit,” explains Steve Coppock, Consulting Engineer at Armour & Associates. “When you're standing there, literally, the only thing you hear is the water running through.” You’ve got to like the sound of that. #HDPE #CoolingTowers #DeltaCooling #GEAerospace
