And just like that, AUVSI Xponential Europe is complete. While typically a slower day, Day 3 was filled with insight, innovation, and meaningful connections. Usually at trade shows, many leave early on the last day, but that didn't happen here.?As the show was being shut down, there was still significant traffic and many conversations ongoing.?That's a testament to the quality of the show. Michael Robbins and the rest of the team at AUVSI, along with everyone at Messe-Dusseldorf (Brett Babcock and Krys J.), were great hosts and did a great job putting together a quality show.?That being said, we were surprised that many did not leave the show until they started turning off the lights. The most interesting presentation for us was from Thomas Eder,?Head of Embedded Wireless at Nokia, who spoke about how they are approaching the drone-in-a-box market.?We'll be watching them closely as they continue to pursue this market. As we wrap up the trip with a few more visits, we reflect back on an incredibly full week with a few thoughts: The European UAS market is very different that the US market (as you'd expect), but there are a lot of similarities in the challenges that companies of all sizes and stages.?We talked with some of the largest defense companies in the EU, and some of the newest startups.?Overall, we leave the show very optimistic about the opportunities here, for companies all around the world. We were impressed with the quality of conversations we were able to have with customers from many continents.?The international aspect allowed us to learn about the markets not only here in Europe, but Asia, Africa, and other places around the world. We leave AUVSI Europe filled with excitement not only for Xponential in Houston, but for a return to Dusseldorf next year.?Based on our experiences this week, we expect next year to be bigger and better.?Until then, Auf Wiedersehen!! As Day 3 wraps up, and we had some time to reflect on Day 2, we are extremely impressed by the breadth of this event. Yesterday was great, capped by a great drone show in the Dusseldorf evening sky. The Keynote was a great start to the day.?Dr Lars Fr?lund and Prof Rob Murray MBA , gave profound insights into the future of Venture Captial in the European market.?We left the Keynote very optimistic about the future of industry investment in the UAS market, despite the high level of uncertainty in the near term. The rest of the day was spent interacting with UAS professionals from all over the globe.?It's always enlightening to engage with fellow industry professionals and get the opportunity to collaborate and understand the differences and the similarities in the challenges we all face.? One of the standout presentations at the event was by Kay Wackwitz of Drone Industry Insights (droneii.com). The data he shared was invaluable, especially his graphic illustrating the consequences of regulations failing to keep pace with industry advancements. It resonated with everyone who has been in the drone industry for any length of time. His insights highlighted that this issue isn’t just specific to one nation or continent—it’s a global one. The regulatory lag is a major pain point for companies trying to scale beyond pilot projects. It raises the question: which countries are striking the right balance between regulation and innovation? It was a very interesting first day of AUVSI Europe.?This is the first time that AUVSI has partnered to host this show, so we truly didn't know what to expect.?We were pleasantly surprised in a lot of ways. A couple quick reflections on the day: - This event was smaller than expected.?This may be due to other events occurring, or it may be due to this being the first time that AUVSI held this type of show, only time will tell.?That being said, there was a great diversity of exhibitors from many different countries that made the show very worthwhile for all attendees. -The Keynote Event was probably one of the best I've listened to in recent memory.?The back-to-back presentations from the Dusseldorf Mayor, followed by the perspective brought by the heavy hitting panel of Rachel Daeschler, Lee Moak, Michael Robbins, and Dr. Gerald Wissel was educational and insightful.?Having it followed up with a great overview of Amazon Prime's current and future operations by Dr. Alberto Nisoli was a great bookend to the Keynote. -It was surprising that there is a co-located trade show focusing on the retail POS industry.?We spent time walking the floor of both shows, and while there is not significant apparent overlap, true innovation happens when cross pollination between industries occurs.??We're looking forward to seeing if this co-located show construct produces any advances in either industry.
