Each year, Executive Director Darcie DeShazo and the team at The Settlement Home for Children care for 35-50 teenagers at the Residential Treatment Center (RTC). They support residents’ emotional and physical health, provide therapeutic counseling, offer nourishing meals, organize recreational activities, foster healthy relationships, and encourage academic progress. This nurturing environment helps the teens heal, grow, and stay connected to trusted people and resources that guide them toward independence. “Our care builds trust and creates consistency. By having houseparents and counselors who live and work with the kids daily, we get to know their routines, challenges, and strengths. Since 2010, the Dell Young Leaders program has empowered over 2,000 South African university students on their journey toward graduation and career success. ? In Houston, 1,440 young adults have gained career training and secured quality health care jobs right after high school. Through the Greater Houston Opportunity Youth Collaborative (GHOYC), an initiative of Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries, Inc., these young adults are positioned for long-term career success.? ? GHOYC partners with school districts to connect recent graduates with workforce training, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and certifications needed to thrive in health care roles.? ?
