Starting off Women's History Month is a young woman who is MAKING history. Alexandra Peachey was the FIRST Della Penna Fellowship recipient and a very early champion for other young women to have the same experience she did. She has forged a path for several girls who have followed and now we would formally like to announce the she is the First Della Penna Fellowship Recipient to be accepted into her dream college. She has impacted everyone here at DPF and we cannot cheer loud enough for her as she embarks on this next adventure. You may know her as "Motorcycle Mary" from the ESPN documentary, or you may know her as the first woman to race motorcycles, and dirt bike racing in America. Either way you would be correct- and lucky- to be familiar with such an iconic pioneer. Mary was a fierce competitor whether in a car, on a motorbike or a dirt bike! Podium Finishes and having gutsy races was par for any course graced by Mary McGee. Whenever a problem arose or the road ahead seemed to end, Mary was incredible at pushing forward and daring to go the extra mile. This could be best displayed in her 1975 Baja desert race where she single handedly passed 17 two-men teams. After what she deemed her "hardest thing I've ever done". Mary wouldn't race for another 30 years until she bought a 1974 250cc Husqvarna and began racing vintage motocross events in the 60 and 70+ categories. The NXG Youth Motorsports Academy takes young kids and introduces them to something the world of motorsports. It is an all encompassing program from racing to STEM that helps prepare kids for what is next. For some it is Force Indy- Reids team for the big leagues that took its first victory lap in 2021. Highlighting impactful individuals for Black History Month, The Della Penna Team has chosen to kick off with Myles Rowe . As the first black driver to win an INDYCAR sanctioned race at New Jersey Motorsport Park in his first season. Rowe has set himself on a path for inspiration, success and trailblazing. That season would go on to yield 5 victories, 3 poles, 10 podium finishes, 13 top 5 positions.
