100 Episodes! The Digital Restaurant Podcast just hit a major milestone, and while we’re celebrating, we’re also shaking things up. Big and exciting news (and if you've been on a beach somewhere): Meredith Sandland is off to Starbucks! She’s taking on an EVP role leading development, and I'm thrilled for her, and while we’ll all miss her insights, it gives the show a chance to move in a new direction. As such, I’m looking for guest hosts. If you’re in #restaurants, #restauranttech, #AI, #automation, or #restaurantoperations, let’s collaborate on a future episode. DM me or comment below if you’re interested in supporting. So what’s in this special episode? I discuss the end of SaaS as we know it and why APIs and integrations aren’t enough. We get into AI-powered decision-making—how Chain of Thought Reasoning will change restaurant and retail tech for the better. I reflect on the Amazon’s API mandate back in the day and what it can teach the rest of us—breaking silos for real business transformation. We get into how chain of thought reasoning will help with so many use cases from demand forecasting to hyper-personalized guest experiences Key takeaway: Businesses relying on fragmented tech stacks are falling behind. The winners are moving towards AI-driven orchestration that unifies data and decision-making across departments. Let’s discuss. Do you think SaaS will evolve into AI-driven agents? Or are we still waiting for better integrations? Drop your thoughts below. Shawn P. Walchef, Jason Berkowitz, Abhinav Kapur, ???Zack Oates??, Geoff Alexander, Gregg Majewski, Lisa W. New Year. New #Podcast and this time I'm talking to one of my own on the other side of the pond. Chris Fletcher and I talk through the role of #AI in hospitality, the fall-out on the #dynamicpricing volatility of last year and what lies ahead as company's like Invisible Technologies push the needle for #multiunit operations everywhere. The Digital Restaurant
Hello ????, The first Tech on Toast podcast of the year is here, and it’s a must-listen! ?? I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Carl Orsbourn, one of the most prominent voices in the hospitality tech world. With 18 years of retail expertise at BP under his belt, Carl transitioned into the dynamic world of ghost kitchens and restaurant technology. He’s also the co-author of the influential books "Delivering the Digital Restaurant" and its follow-up, "The Path to Digital Maturity." The Digital Restaurant In this episode, we dive into some of the biggest topics, continuing to shape hospitality: ? The Role of AI in Hospitality ? Dynamic Pricing and its Impact on Revenue ? Guest Experience and Technology ? Personalisation Through Data ?? Carl’s passion for using data to craft hyper-personalised guest experiences really stood out. He shared a heartwarming story about his favourite childhood restaurant - how the team there remembered his mum’s favourite wine without the help of technology. Now, imagine how today’s advanced tech can elevate that level of personalisation! ?? This conversation feels especially timely as we gear up for Weareservice, we have a few masterclasses lined up which dive into restaurant tech & guest experience! Here's what's on the agenda... Planday "Serving innovation: why ai is the secret ingredient for hospitality success" Lightspeed Commerce "Mastering consumer expectations around personalisation, ai and sustainability" Tenzo - Restaurant PerformanceOps "Power bi-bye-bye: building your own vs buying restaurant tech" Sentiment Search "No BS, just the next generation of customer experience insights" ?? Any who, don’t miss this insightful episode. It’s packed with actionable takeaways for anyone looking to stay ahead in the ever-evolving world of hospitality: ?? https://lnkd.in/eCUPJKjC And if you're looking for a ticket to Weareservice we're pretty sure there's a few left! Is this the next evolution of #pricing dynamically?? Taco Bell pushing the innovation envelope once again. Meredith Sandland Carl Orsbourn
Taco Bell just launched a “Name Your Price” feature in their app! (And it’s genius) The tech lets users set the max price they want to spend, then Taco Bell will build a cart of random combos to fit the bill. And don’t worry, if you don’t like your combo, you can refresh the cart for a new one! With dozens of items to choose from, it can get overwhelming to find the right mix of items you want within your budget (AKA - Analysis Paralysis). This will likely not only increase Taco Bell’s average order value, but also the conversion rate of online pickup. What do you think? Who will build this for the masses? It’s only a matter of time before big DTC brands take advantage of this.

Well that’s the first time I’ve done an Ellen type selfie before starting a panel. Scott, Nenye, Brennan - you guys were awesome. We could have gone on for another hour but so many more folks to speak yet at the #FoodAI summit here at University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Congrats to the lady in the front row for winning a copy of Delivering the Digital Restaurant. Efficiency and productivity are at the heart of how #AI capabilities will transform #restaurants. Invisible is there to help you find out how (and Curbit, Leanpath and Virtual Dining Concepts)! The Digital Restaurant

Scott Murphy, Chief Brand Officer of Inspire says they’ve developed a #Revenuemanagement tool for all their franchisees across the 32000 locations. This includes price recommendations, competitor app price scraping and more! Wonder how the lawyers felt about that!! Pretty bold and impressive move to help such a large contingent of independent businesses get insights about the most important concern out there: “value for money” amidst a year of traffic challenges. #qsrevolution Danny Klein

#qsrevolutionconference serves up the insights. Getting #ai right is about getting the underlying #data right.
"It is much easier to structure the data correctly from the beginning than to retrofit your systems to talk to each other." "For a Digital Restaurant, a guest's experience of the restaurant is the digital experience. They may never speak to one of your employees. Your digital experience has to be great." "When you make the ordering experience great, your sales will go up. But if you don't also fix the kitchen throughput and fulfillment, your wait times will also go up. Your product is not just the food, it is the entire experience from ordering through to delivery. With all the data is one place, you can make the entire experience great." "You need to instrument the kitchen to collect the data you'll need later. Our software is designed to collect the data of what's actually happening in the kitchen, which enables us to use machine learning to help the kitchen operate smoothly. Our goal is to make employees' jobs easier. the technology we use to do that should be invisible to them." -Brian Howenstein of Empower Delivery at the #qsrevolutionconference Brian knows what he's talking about. Together with Dan McFadden he's built a system that puts all ordering, cooking and fulfillment data in one place. This unified architecture enables the promise of #ai in the #restaurant industry: personalization, ecommerce metrics, 100% known guests, real-time quote times, better kitchen throughput, and cheaper, better delivery.

Tom Curtis of Burger King says that social media has to be authentic and organic. He goes on to say that “mouldy whoppers” wasnt getting them the attention they wanted. I think this emphasizes the importance of social agility by marketing teams as we saw from Dawn Keller at California Pizza Kitchen who did just that with the mac n cheese viral play a few weeks back. Great start here as four presidents of four RBI kick off this year’s #qsrevolution conference! Danny Klein Katerina Glyptis Mike Hancock Jeff Klein
