Ahead of the CINARS Biennale, the Cultural Attachés of the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du Québec gathered in Montréal for an engaging discussion with Mathieu Lacombe, Minister at Ministère de la Culture et des Communications. The conversation centered on the successes and challenges of supporting Quebec’s cultural artists and companies internationally. A key focus was enhancing the discoverability of Quebec's rich cultural offerings, particularly on digital platforms. Jean-Baptiste Piron, our cultural attaché, was delighted to exchange best practices with colleagues and (re)connect with representatives from la SODEC - Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and Xn Québec. The program also included two insightful on-site visits. The first was with the development team at Moment Factory, a Quebec-based leader in designing and producing immersive environments that blend video, lighting, architecture, sound, and special effects. The second was to OASIS immersion, a permanent, fully immersive 21,500-square-foot museal space on the ground floor of the Palais des congrès de Montréal, which is poised for international expansion. ???? ?? Last week marked Québec’s first participation at the Wyoming Governor’s Business Forum, hosted at the University of Wyoming. ?? With more that 500 participants, this great event was an opportunity to establish a valuable network of local contacts from the political, business and academic community, including the Governor Mark Gordon, while making new friends. It also provided us with key market insight into #Wyoming, a State that produces 12 times more energy that it consumes. The panel we assisted to and our discussions with the participants highlighted diverse business opportunities and potential synergies in key sectors such as: ?? Critical minerals to enhance the North American supply chain; ?? Clean energy projects, including carbon capture technologies, battery development, and renewable energy like wind power; ?? Economic partnerships in advanced manufacturing, transportation, and technology. ??A special congratulations to Renny MacKay, President of the Wyoming Business Alliance, and his entire team for organizing such a outstanding event! ?? Recently, we had the pleasure of joining the Los Angeles Consular Corps for a comprehensive briefing session on the upcoming 2028 Olympics and Paralympics Games. ?? The insights shared by Priscilla Cheng, senior vice-president of government relations for LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games, and by Erin Bromaghim, deputy mayor of the City of Los Angeles, shed light on the immense scale or organizing this global sporting event, set to take place from July 14 to 30, 2028. It's also inspiring to see how the creative expertise from Québec could be poised to contribute to the success of this landmark occasion. ?? Last week, IVADO had the unique opportunity to participate for the first time in the prestigious #IndustryDay at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at the University of California, Berkeley. This event brought together an impressive audience of researchers, academic fellows, and key industrial and institutional partners, including Apple, Google, NVIDIA, and Jane Street. ?? During this landmark visit, Foutse Khomh showcased IVADO’s extensive multidisciplinary expertise in artificial intelligence (AI). Here are some key facts about IVADO: ?? IVADO is the largest interdisciplinary and intersectoral AI research, training, and knowledge transfer consortium in #Quebec and #Canada. ?? Led by the Université de Montréal and supported by Polytechnique Montréal, HEC Montréal, Université Laval, and McGill University, IVADO unites a robust network of partners. ?? The consortium comprises over 2,000 researchers, 14 university members, two hospitals, and more than 150 industrial and community partners, spanning manufacturers, government agencies, NGOs, and more. ?? IVADO was awarded a CA$124.5M grant from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund to advance the development of robust, reasoning, and responsible AI. In addition to participating in the event, IVADO explored potential collaborations with key figures in the field: Mark Nitzberg, Executive Director of the Center for Human-Compatible AI, and Nestor Maslej, Research Director at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). These discussions promise continued momentum into 2025, underscoring the strong links between IVADO and the global AI research community. Exciting times are ahead! The partnership between IVADO and the Simons Institute will support three thematic workshops in the Bay Area, one of which will be led by IVADO's very own Yoshua Bengio.
