There are several reports of downed trees from the overnight winds. Please drive carefully. Dark traffic signals and fallen trees can be reported to the Transportation Management Center by calling #77. Impacted roads will likely remain blocked until winds subside and utility companies can safely make repairs. #netde

To celebrate Black History Month, DelDOT is recognizing the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history and how they have changed the face of the transportation industry. Today we continue with McKinley Thompson. In 1956, McKinley Thompson became the first African-American car designer for a major automobile manufacturer when the Ford Motor Company hired him. After serving in World War II, he attended the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He became the first African-American to enroll in the institution’s highly regarded transportation design department. After earning his bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Thompson went to work at the Ford Motor Company’s design center. #BlackHistoryinTransportation #BlackHistoryMonth

Good morning - Surface temperatures in Kent and Sussex are now above freezing and roads are wet as precipitation is now all rain. The northern part of the state continues to see a wintry mix and icy conditions should be expected over next few hours until temperatures rise and the changeover to rain occurs. Please drive safely! #netde

Celebrating Black History Month Throughout the month, DelDOT will be recognizing the achievements and contributions of African Americans in U.S. history and how they have changed the face of the transportation industry. We begin with Charles Richard “Rich” Patterson. Patterson was born into slavery on a plantation in Virginia in 1833. After gaining his freedom, Patterson initially worked in Greenfield, Ohio, as a blacksmith for Dines & Simpson Carriage and Coach Makers Company. There he became foreman, helped establish the company as a high-quality builder of horse-drawn vehicles, and eventually became sole proprietor of the renamed C.R. Patterson & Sons carriage company. #BlackHistoryisAmericanHistory #BlackHistoryMonth

DRIFTING SNOW HAZARD : Strong winds are causing snow to drift onto roads across the state. Please be alert and slow down as these areas can cause loss of control as pictured below on Route 113 just south of Route 16. - This will be an ongoing issue through today and the overnight hours. - Plows are continuing to work and get out to areas where drifting is occurring. This also slows efforts to clear other roads because of need to continually plow back roads that were clear. - The snow plow tracker is currently unavailable for Kent County. All available plows are deployed but are not visible on the map. - Adapt your driving to the conditions - roads that have packed snow/ice will remain that way until temperatures begin to warm. #netde #stormDE

?? This week’s significant snowfall in Kent and Sussex are a reminder that DelDOT offers communities with state maintained roads a snow removal reimbursement. The program reimburses civic associations for snow removal from private contractors who can plow communities sooner during a storm event. ??
