  • In November 2023, the DCF issued over $6 million in grants from the Paul H. Boerger Fund, which supports research to prevent and cure Alzheimer’s. This included $575,000 to the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research at the University of Delaware to support a one-year research project focused on linking modifiable lifestyle choices with accelerated dementia risk and identifying new interventions to stop, slow or reverse Alzheimer’s disease. “Paul H. Boerger established what’s called a legacy gift,” says Sarah Hench, executive vice president for strategic engagement at the DCF. “It’s a plan he set in motion during his lifetime that continues to make a meaningful impact after his passing. Our role at DCF is to honor that vision, ensuring these funds create the greatest possible impact, which is why we chose to support the ground-breaking work of the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research.” When donors give to the DCF, they support organizations working to cure Alzheimer’s, end homelessness, improve schools, protect the environment, empower civic engagement, and help sustain communities across Delaware.
