An adaptable region is better prepared to navigate a changing world and recognizes that protecting the agricultural and ecological value of land is an investment in its economic future. How are our regional partners working to achieve this goal? After development in Montgomery County, PA led to significant farmland loss in the 1970s and 1980s, the County worked to protect and support viable agricultural lands by purchasing conservation easements on farms and encouraging new development in already established areas. To ensure the economic viability of farmland, the County and its partners have embraced a regional effort to support the success of their agricultural industries through agritourism promotion. Montgomery County recently produced an interactive map, “Field to Family,” showcasing farms and agritourism opportunities, to drive visitors from within and outside the county to local farms and businesses. Q: What is your work/life philosophy? A: I try to take a moment out of every day to do something that reminds me of who I am. It could be drawing for just 10 minutes, sanding one piece of wood, humming a melody in my voice memos, snapping a photo, or writing down an interesting phrase. It doesn’t have to be “good”—that word means something different to everyone. When I show up for myself that way, then I can wholeheartedly show up for others. Did you know March is National Procurement Month? Since last March, our procurement team has executed 141 contracts, negotiated $400,000 in savings, sourced $1.8 million in cooperative purchases for software/services/equipment, processed 263 requisitions, administered 26 RFPs, and reduced RFP cycle time by 21 days year-over-year.
