Preparing our scholars for their next step since 2014 ...

关于我们

Delaware College Scholars (DCS) is an academically rigorous college preparation and college persistence program in the State of Delaware. For high-achieving public high school students with no clear path to college, DCS’ tuition-free residential program provides its scholars the opportunity to succeed. For three summers in a row, students live and learn together as they prepare for acceptance and graduation from competitive four-year colleges and universities. DCS’ intense college-level curriculum in a roundtable format not only prepares the scholars for college but also ensures they persist beyond freshman year. To date, 92 percent of Delaware College Scholars, who are underserved and often the first in their family to attend college, have gone on to four-year institutions of higher learning. 94 percent have remained in college beyond freshman year.

Civil Engineer major at the University of Delaware

I had an incredible time participating in the Engineering Showcase at the University of Delaware! It was incredible to see the diverse and innovative board games projects that my peers worked on, I am proud to be part of a talented community that boasts many future engineers and problem-solvers. For our project, I had the pleasure of working with William Dawson and Somin Park. We created Cosmos, an interactive trivia game for people ages six and up. This game combined strategic thinking, problem-solving, and time management in a black hole format. I especially enjoyed the hands-on process of our project; we 3D printed all of the tokens while laser-cutting and vinyl-cutting other components of the game, also while coding a circuit board as well. This enhanced our game, positively contributing to its overall design and functionality. I’m glad this experience taught me how to combine engineering skills with creativity, making a fun game for folks of all ages. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about the game. I would love to connect with you.

  • “I’m also going to use this time to give my love to DCS; I always have to. This [DCS] has really changed my life, and without this opportunity, I don’t even think I would have ended up at George Washington and be where I am. This was pivotal in my journey, so I always have to give thanks to the program and all that you guys have done for me over the years.” Mya Burrell is a first-generation college graduate from The George Washington University, where she earned her degree from the Elliott School of International Affairs, majoring in International Affairs and Economics with a concentration in Comparative Political, Cultural, and Societal Systems in Africa. We are so proud of you, Mya! Link: https://lnkd.in/eMZwuqmX
