Defying Gender Roles

Fatherhood, 6 years and two children later. Sebastián M. has written a reflection on his journey in parenthood and being a feminist dad every 2 years, and the 6 year check-in serves as a great reality check for all parents, especially fathers. The motto "just keep swimming" will only take you so far until you burn out. Sebastián reminds all fathers to take a moment to pause every once in a while, reflect on how you can care for yourself in order to better take care of others. Today is the International Day of Care. There are so many topics we could discuss when it comes to the importance of care work, both paid and unpaid. So many ways that we could reiterate the value it brings to our lives. Care work is the type of work that persists and is absolutely necessary regardless of your emotional state as a parent, the state of war in the world, the government attempting to regulate your parenthood, and so on. Care work is essential to our functioning in society and should be regarded that way always.
