Tufts video from our testing of the SideRider on an Autorack model at TU Berlin this summer. This deflector, which is the gray piece you can see on both sides of the inter-car gap, reduced drag on the first railcar by ~14.7% with no crosswinds, however as you can see here there is still some turbulence left over in the gap.

Here is an early look at our promising results from a wind tunnel test for our SideRider product for Autoracks at TU Berlin. We measured forces on the middle two cars of a three car consist behind a bluff body with and without different deflector configurations applied. Below are the % reductions in drag for 11 different different deflector designs in straight line, with closed and porous walls. The most effective design with porous walls reduced drag by 13.8% on the first car and 6.1% across both cars.

Check out our new blog post about the SideRider, a new way to reduce aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption on automotive trains. https://lnkd.in/enJW36HY Early simulations suggest that the SideRider can reduce drag by up to 7%. We will be conducting wind tunnel testing at TU Berlin this summer to verify these numbers. The SideRider will be very affordable and easily installable on existing Autoracks to save fuel for the life of a railcar with no operational or maintenance costs. Railroads are climate tech and critical to the world's economy. By making Autoracks more efficient we will save railroads money, and reduce carbon emissions twice over by decreasing rail emissions and making rail more competitive with trucking.
