97% of clinical data goes unused. That’s 50 million gigabytes a year — locked away in EMRs, buried in notes, lost to complexity. To extract insights, health systems today rely on teams of clinicians manually reviewing charts. It’s slow, costly, and inconsistent. Layer Health is changing that. Their AI platform reads and interprets medical records with clinician-level understanding — and does it in hours, not months. This is what clinical inference at scale looks like. Most healthcare AI tools focus on narrow use cases, but Layer is different. They're enabling health systems to extract meaningful insights from messy, unstructured medical data with clinician-level accuracy. It’s a platform that makes clinical data understandable — and actionable. We’re thrilled to lead their $21M Series A and support them as they build the foundation for smarter, faster, more efficient healthcare. https://lnkd.in/g_hT7mtT

Marit Health is bringing radical transparency to clinician compensation. It's long overdue, which is why we're proud to lead their seed round and closely partner with them in this next chapter. Despite being some of the most in-demand professionals in the country, clinicians have shockingly little insight into their own worth. Marit Health is changing that — today, 12,000+ doctors, PAs, and NPs use Marit to compare real-world pay, benefits, call schedules, and more. It’s fast becoming the go-to resource for clinicians navigating career decisions. For employers, this data unlocks better recruiting, smarter retention strategies, and a path to rebuild trust with the clinical workforce. In a system where 1 in 5 doctors are planning to leave the field, Marit is building something essential: trust and transparency. This is a win-win model — and we're proud to partner with this team. https://lnkd.in/ggWY-Mk9

Most VCs think people strategy = hiring great talent. But hiring alone isn’t enough — scaling teams and building a strong culture is what sets successful startups apart. Founders should look for investors who help them develop leadership, align their teams, and scale their culture — not just make hires. Our Head of People Karsten Vagner dives into what founders should be asking of their investors and ensure they go beyond recruiting and truly help them build for scale. https://lnkd.in/gAAyGsbz

Remember the first wave of digital health IPOs? Some flew, others sank. The new Define Ventures report, "Health Tech's Defining Decade," suggests the next wave is here and looking more promising than ever. Here are 3 things that caught my eye in the report. 1?? Despite market fluctuations, health tech has consistently made up ~10% of all venture-backed private unicorns since the sector took off in 2020. There's been a solid, growing group of companies with strong business models and innovative solutions. 2?? Since 2020, the first wave of health tech has seen 18 companies exit for $1B+. Plus, these exits are efficient. On average for "9.4-11.2x the total capital raised." 3?? Business models within health tech "performed better and at par respectively" to similar tech companies in public markets since 2022. A solid number of health tech companies--around two dozen--have scaled successfully, either sustaining themselves as private firms or making a strong exit into the public markets. Plus, the report anticipates the next wave to have "2-3 times the revenue scale" and reach it "more quickly." Call it a hunch, but I think we’re in for a better ride ?? By the way, I cover healthcare industry news like this in my 2x/week newsletter, Hospitalogy. Payers and providers are approaching AI with as much pragmatism as enthusiasm, with the vast majority (73%) having established AI governance committees. These committees play a critical role in aligning AI initiatives with organizational values and fostering trust. They help to ensure AI adoption aligns with core values like patient protection, data privacy, and workforce trust — a balancing act that can be challenging. For founders selling AI solutions into these large healthcare organizations, it's critical to anticipate and address the concerns of AI governance bodies by proactively mitigating risks related to safety and data policies. Read our full report linked in the comments — based on extensive research with C-suite leaders and senior executives from over 60 payer and providers and chock full of valuable insights for entrepreneurs.
