This was a very interesting case of a police officer who had a *history* of such violence and violations cost his city $350,000 in this particular case. Why bring this up? This May I'll be speaking at the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association and the following month to another conference co-sponsored by the Texas Municipal League, both focused on #municipalities and #citygovernment related to #hrmanagement #riskmanagement and #reputationmanagement issues. But this story is relevant to *ANY* in HR or Risk Management given it has to do with at-risk employee behavior. The video link is in the comments section below, for those interested in the deep dive -- and it's a good one. To employers, regardless of industry/profession -- YES! You ARE responsible for the actions of your people in the field, not just in the office. And YES, prior history will come into play with potential lawsuits filed, particularly if there was a history from prior employers that either (a) you didn't know but should have, or (b) you did know, but hired without addressing the prior issue(s). For my friends and contacts who are #attorneys #lawyers, you will also appreciate this one, particularly if you deal with employment law or business law as, again, this could be ANY employer with similar employees exhibiting such aggressive behavior, let alone those who have a prior history 'of' such behavior. Again, full video link below in the comments section. I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

关于我们
Defense By Design was founded to provide everyday people with everyday solutions to avoid criminal harm and exploitation. It is best summarized by saying "I teach you how to spot trouble 'before' trouble spots you." Seminars are offered to a wide range of audiences and professionals, some for the public sector and some for the private sector. We believe that whether it is the people you live with or the people you work with, there are different vulnerabilities most of us need to address, and rarely are they the same. This is why we take a more customized approach to the topic of personal defense and security that many other traditional approaches in the marketplace.

This event is coming up on April 16th, my 3rd such Association for Financial Professionals chapter event since the first of this year. This one, however, will be virtual. This association represents various #financialservices professional, including those in #banking and #treasury for the companies/entities where they are employed. As they already know, often times compromised employees are the source of many of their data woes as it pertains to #datasecurity as well as monetary security. If you represent similar fiscal as well as physical interests, perhaps we should also be talking. I know someone who can help, as does AFP. #defensebydesign

This June, I will be presenting this program to the BOMA Fort Worth chapter monthly luncheon. But late last year, I did this same program back-to-back over several days for employees of one U.S. city where unfortunately they lost one of their employees due to a fatal attack caused by this very issue. This is not directed at any 'one' industry or profession. Any business that interacts with the public, whose field employees interact with the public, whose retail or restaurant employees interact with the public would do well to go through such training. This is not about "sensitivity" - but survival. This is #hrmanagement #riskmanagement and #reputationmanagement combined in a *proactive* approach, something #insurancebrokers #insurancecompanies #lawfirms #generalcounsel will appreciate as well. It's your company, your people, your reputation, and YOUR potential liability. I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

For #financialservices #financialadvisors #wealthmanagers #insurancebrokers #bankers or similar always looking for a high-impact client value-add event -- here you go! Your clients who have college-bound seniors heading off next fall will GREATLY appreciate this being offered to their daughters or granddaughters -- and it is for the moms as well. If you are looking to develop not only relationships with spouses, but 2nd generation relationships as well, this provides an excellent such foot in the door and is *highly* relevant to issues and concerns of the day dealing with campus safety -- both physical *AND* fiscal concerns. Any #cardealer #cardealership also interested (even if in hosting at your location), this might also be a great lead gen tool for your dealership. Now through early summer is the best time to do so. If interested, let's talk, but do so SOON to get the event rolling. https://lnkd.in/gtNqTPUU

This May I'll be addressing the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association state conference in San Antonio. Below is yet another example that just hit national news in the past day or so as to "why." In addition to addressing physical risks and data risks, I also address #reputationalrisk which is when employees (any employees) either do foolish things to self-incriminate themselves usually via social media *OR* get caught doing something foolish on someone else's phone/camera that ends up going viral. This is somewhat a combination of both below as this city employee created the controversy, but CCTV cameras in-house easily narrowed it down to the fact she did it herself (and to herself). This story has since gone national. For #hrmanagers #hrmanagement #riskmanagers #riskmanagement, these stories abound in the media and on social media -- and that simply does not have to be the case. For #citymanagers #municipalities #cityleaders #citycouncil members wishing to get and STAY ahead of such controversies, perhaps we need to have a talk. Full story link below in comments section. I (and TMHRA) know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

Next week I will be doing down to Austin to speak at the state conference for the Texas Assisted Living Association For years I have spoken to various #commercialproperty and #residentialproperty #multifamily interests regarding the challenges they face in physical, data and reputational concerns. Given the nature of these properties, the message translates well. For others in #propertymanagement #buildingmanagement #facilitymanagement as well as #riskmanagement pertaining to these industries, even #insurancebrokers #insurancecarriers representing the same, we should visit as well. I (and TALA) know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

Just this morning I was out on a walk when confronted by a man who obviously had some mental issues, walking up and quite literally trying to pick a fight (this is at 6am, by the way), via a barrage of expletives aimed in my direction. It didn't happen. Last year I know of a fellow who quite literally lost his life in a similar scenario. Words are just that -- "words." Unfortunately many seemingly did not get (or remember) that old saying from our childhood about "sticks and stones," thus allowing things to escalate. For #hrmanagers #hrdirectors #riskmanagers #businessmanagers or those who oversee people interacting with customers/clients/patients/etc. and understand this same risk, I offer the presentation noted below in the video. This is not just about #hrmanagement and #riskmanagement, but #reputationmanagement as well given how many such interactions today are caught on someone's phone camera and go viral. If curious, let's talk. I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

One of the stories I'll be telling in two weeks addressing the Texas Assisted Living Association (TALA) is one many of their property management members are already familiar with, noted below. This serial killer murdered over 20 victims in various assisted living homes across the metroplex several years ago, several of which are still dealing with the aftermath (i.e. lawsuits). This is just "one" (1) example of the challenges this industry faces regarding resident safety and security, but there are others. No matter what type of #propertymanagement is represented, whether #commercialproperties or #multifamily, #buildingmanagement or #apartmentmanagement, many of the same issues apply. For those in these arenas as well as the #insurancebrokers #insurancecompanies that represent them, perhaps we too should talk. I and TALA know someone who can help. #defensebydesign #tala

This is a *NEW* presentation I'll be delivering this June for the BOMA Fort Worth chapter membership. Obviously office buildings are familiar with physical *escalators* but we'll be addressing the verbal ones. I recall one recent client (#municipality) that unfortunately lost one of their employees last year to violence over a verbal escalation that turned deadly. There can be severe ramifications (oh, and lawsuits too) when these occur, but who even wants explicative-ridden verbal escalations in their place of business either? What your people "say" or "say in response" will often determine what follows, be it escalation or retaliation. For #buildingmanagers #officemanagers #propertymanagers #hrmanagers #riskmanagers #salesmanagers #facilitymanagers or even #businessowners who want to keep temperatures down and profits up, we should talk. I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign #boma

Next month I have a #propertymanagement company bringing me in to help educate and train tenants within their buildings (multi-building campus). Obviously they "GOT" the message below, realizing that true security is not about the place - but the people. For those in similar positions of #buildingmanagement #facilitymanagement #riskmanagement or even #hrmanagement whether in buildings or your own or shared commercial spaces, it may well be a "neighbor" in your building that compromises or threatens the safety/security of YOUR people. I have very specific, targeted programs to address such concerns for both #commercialpropertymanagement and #residentialpropertymanagement #multifamily management. Let's talk. #defensebydesign
