A seemingly routine lift and set of a 98,775-pound (50’ long x 29’ wide x 14’ tall) building from the dock onto a barge came to a halt when the client’s equipment broke. The client called #DeepSouthCrane for a plan to lift and load the structure while avoiding the broken crane that could not be moved in time to meet the building’s delivery schedule. With limited space, the Deep South team assembled a 550-ton #Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 hydraulic truck crane close enough to the building to allow for the lift, turn, and set of the structure within a 90’ max radius. Outrigger mats, which were placed 20’ from the edge of the dock, supported the crane throughout the lift. When an essential industrial unit targeted for replacement began to fail earlier than expected, #DeepSouthCrane reworked resources to start two months ahead of schedule to support this turnaround effort in the Southwest. Deep South’s team was tasked to lift seven vessels ranging from 50,000 to 600,000 pounds with limited space for tail swing. Assisting with the onsite transport of several items was a 12-axle-line #Goldhofer E-Series transporter. A 1,000-ton #VersaCrane CC-12000 was used as the main lift crane, while a 440-ton #Tadano #Demag CC 2400-1 crawler crane in the laydown area supported the movement of miscellaneous pieces of equipment. ? The project faced logistical challenges, such as low water levels in the Mississippi River, prompting the use of alternate barge routes through the Mobile, Tombigbee, and Tennessee Rivers. During the scheduled outage, Deep South was tasked to replace two coke drums, each weighing 452,800 lbs. and measuring 19’-2” outside diameter and 96’-0” long. These were comparable in size and weight to the old drums. ? From the initial transport of the new drums from the Port of Houston to a dock in Louisiana, to their final installation, every step was carefully orchestrated. In Louisiana, #deepsouthcrane successfully transported a 350,000-pound steam boiler with precision and expertise. This operation presented challenges on the boiler’s 375-mile journey, including navigating tight exits and unexpected road construction, and our team was up to the task. Initially, overcoming the size constraints at the fabrication facility required creative solutions. The door width and height of the fabrication facility were too tight to use a conventional transporter to move the steam boiler out of the facility. Using a climbing jack, we elevated the boiler onto a specialized #SPMT and later transferred it onto a 12-axle-line transporter for the journey. Our on-site wireless weighing system ensured accurate weight and balance measurements before hitting the road. Working closely with the LaDOTD, the Deep South team carefully planned the route, ensuring compliance with height restrictions and safely navigating around Baton Rouge via LA-61 and the Sunshine Bridge. The successful delivery of the steam boiler underscores our commitment to delivering complex projects safely and on schedule.
