As temperatures drop across the country, it's time to gear up for the unique challenges that winter brings to our industry! Whether you're working in icy northern climates or braving cooler temperatures in southern regions, here are essential safety practices to keep everyone safe and productive this season: ?Watch for Slip Hazards: Snow and ice increase slip risks. Keep walkways and work areas clear, use salt or sand for traction, and remember to wear slip-resistant footwear! ?Stay Warm & Dry: Cold stress can lead to hypothermia and frostbite. Layer up with insulated clothing, stay dry, and take breaks to warm up in a heated space. Invest in gloves that keep hands warm without sacrificing dexterity. ?Protect your Tools & Equipment: Cold weather affects equipment performance. Keep machinery and tools in optimal condition by following winter maintenance checks and using cold-weather-rated lubricants and antifreeze. ?Mind Your Mixes: In colder temps, concrete can set slower or even freeze. Use heaters or insulated blankets to maintain curing temperatures, and be mindful of additives for safe concrete pours in low temps. ?Prepare for Early Sunsets: With shorter days, visibility on job sites can become an issue. Ensure proper lighting and wear high-visibility gear to stay safe after dark. ?Adapt to Your Region: From the snowy Midwest to the damp Northwest, winter affects us all differently. Keep an eye on local forecasts and make safety adjustments as needed to match the conditions in your area. Let’s make this winter a season of safe, smart work! Stay warm, stay safe, and keep up the great work, ASCC members! #ASCC #decorativeconcretecouncil #concretepolishingcouncil #concreteconstruction
