I just got home from three days at FinTech Meetup. What an incredible event. I cannot recall everyone that I saw, but so many friends and collaborators make it a must attend event. Some of the highlights were spending time with Vishal Rana, Ham Serunjogi, Chris Dean, and Matheus Riolfi. I also loved speaking with Dan Allred, Ema Rouf, Lindsay Fitzgerald, and Ryan Gilbert all about the state of start-up financing. And, of course the incredible speaker's swag (thanks to Sanjib Kalita and Gary Dempsey for an incredible three days!)

The funding and valuation landscape is shifting – what does that mean for fintech founders and investors? Daniel Kimerling will be tackling that question next week at Fintech Meetup alongside Lindsay Fitzgerald (Vesey Ventures), Ema Rouf (Pave.dev), and Dan Allred (HSBC). If you're attending, grab a seat and join the conversation. P.S. It’s Daniel Kimerling's birthday today! Extra reason to stop by and say hello in Vegas. ??

Our latest essay hits close to home for me. Living in Sonoma and spending half a career in insurance and risk management, I’ve seen firsthand how mis-priced risk leads to real-world consequences. If you’re building or thinking about how financial services can tackle this, let’s talk. Our latest Epistula dives into a topic that’s becoming impossible to ignore: the consequences of underpriced risk. It’s clear that climate risk is no longer some distant threat –?it’s here, and the financial system is feeling it. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gdNd9n6B

A new era in music funding is here. The new Deal Comparison Tool lets independent artists and labels compare offers from distributors, major labels, and other funding sources side by side to avoid unexpected traps and make better funding choices. Our goal is to be the place where smart funding choices are made, whether we fund the deal or not. Read more from Music Business Worldwide (MBW) ??

For too long, we've been ignoring the true cost of climate risk. Now, the bill is coming due. Los Angeles started the year on fire. Tens of thousands of structures lost. Businesses wiped out. Entire communities upended. But this isn’t an anomaly – it’s part of a much bigger, much costlier problem. Insurance markets are breaking. Property values are in question. The system is under immense stress. And the financial reckoning ahead will be anything but orderly. We unpacked all of this in our latest piece. Would love to hear your thoughts: https://lnkd.in/ghSaCauz

Forbes just confirmed what we already know – True Link is making a real impact. Congrats to the team for earning a spot on the Fintech 50 list and for continuing to create financial solutions that change lives. Proud to be a part of the journey.
Even as venture capital funding for the industry continued to fall in 2024, many fintechs–especially those serving other businesses—flourished. Here’s the Forbes #Fintech50 for 2025. (Illustration by óscar Ra?a for Forbes) https://trib.al/iJbIvul

The Deciens team is back from our offsite in Palm Springs, recharged and ready to take on the year with aligned goals and renewed energy. These in-person experiences are invaluable for our remote team, allowing us time and space to focus on the essentials. This time around, that included a 2024 year-end review, priority planning for 2025, market analysis, deep-dive portfolio reviews, and setting strategy for the year ahead. Between sessions, we toured Palm Springs' iconic mid-century homes, and had some fun with our new mini-me Lego figures (thanks to the ever-creative Jo Stein). "Running Deciens is simply the most challenging, most brutal, most fulfilling thing I have ever done." Daniel Kimerling shares the real, unfiltered side of building Deciens (spoiler: it’s not all glamour and big wins). From countless flights to a year of rejections, it’s a reminder that success takes time, effort, and a whole lot of persistence (and coffee). Thanks to Benedikt Langer for helping tell this story.
