The Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) aims to be an inclusive platform to support the Signatories in achieving the goals of the Charter. Building on the experience of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) and others, the platform will accelerate knowledge sharing and foster collaboration with peers and partners, driving scalable actions that maximize impact. With its broad geographical reach, targeting producing nations in the Global North and South, the OGDC has the potential to deliver tangible outcomes in support of the world’s move to a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions future.

Yesterday, the OGDC marked a major milestone with its 10th webinar, bringing together Equinor—an industry leader in decarbonization—with over 80 attendees from our global signatory companies to tackle one of the biggest challenges in emissions reduction: #methane and #flaring abatement. This session reinforced the strong environmental and economic case for eliminating these emissions, highlighting how ambition and action in this space can drive both sustainability and business value. Through our Collaborate & Share program, OGDC signatories gain exclusive access to best practices, technical workshops, and peer-to-peer collaboration opportunities—whether through knowledge sharing, technology deployment, or partnerships—to accelerate real-world decarbonization. Reaching this milestone is a testament to the growing momentum behind industry collaboration. We're inspired to see so many signatory companies stepping up to share expertise, exchange solutions, and lead by example. This past week at CERAWeek was nothing short of inspiring. As a team, Bj?rn Otto Sverdrup, Julien Perez and Justine Roure had the opportunity to engage with and contribute to expert panelists, share insights on decarbonization, and collaborate on the future of sustainable energy in a world where demand continues to increase. Amid a landscape of political announcements, one message stood out loud and clear: genuine emissions reductions and a strong commitment to sustainability must shape the energy transition. As aramco CEO Amin Nasser stated on Day 1, these priorities are integral to the industry’s future. Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies underscored the impact of OGDC signatories in advancing decarbonization, while Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO ADNOC Group, called for pragmatic action, stable policies, and an all-of-the-above energy approach—leveraging both low-carbon oil and commercially viable renewables. Our CEO Champions remain steadfast, recognizing that growing global energy demand requires a balanced approach—one that ensures reliability, affordability, security, and sustainability. #Collaboration remains key, and as we build on the momentum from OGCI (Oil and Gas Climate Initiative), we continue to engage with crucial stakeholders, including Jassim Isa AlShirawi Secretary General of the IEF - International Energy Forum, Mark S. After 10 days in the U.S., that's a wrap and I am finally heading back home. Every year, I feel the CERAWeek event busier than the previous one. This year is no exception! After a first stop at the Colorado School of Mines to discuss how OGCI (Oil and Gas Climate Initiative) and The Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) approach methane emissions detection and mitigation, I left Golden energized and ready for #CERA. I was coming here wondering how climate and energy transition will be positioned given the external geopolitical uncertainties:?? ? 1?? Commitments to decarbonize remain. "We are not stepping back from our global climate ambitions. Reducing GHG emissions must still get the highest possible priority" said Amin Nasser on Monday. 2?? Technologies that will help drive down methane emissions of the O&G sector are at scale. I was amazed to see how busy the Methane Innovation was and the attendance of the panels in the Carbon Hub. Thank you again to Environmental Defense Fund and S&P for moderating the panels I participated in. 3?? There is a growing recognition from all players including civil society that the private sector has an important role to play in the climate space, to stay the course and continue deliver the emission reduction. 4?? The growing Question is now how the market could or will reward the bests in class and drive down emissions. Some companies have been working to reduce their emissions with significant results over the past 20+ years. Which bricks are we missing to be able to create a differentiated market? I leave the conference with optimism. There is a lot to deliver in the next months to maximize impact of OGCI (Oil and Gas Climate Initiative) and The Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC). Is the energy transition losing momentum? This was the big debate of the day at #ESFEurope. Last year, PwC found 2024 to have the lowest global decarbonization rate of the last decade, arguing the world must decarbonize 20x faster than it currently is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. ??? Julien Perez, OGDC's Managing Director, pondered this question with industry leaders Mladen Fruk, Daniel Carter, Andreas Leitner, and Dr. Lars Kissau. He argues that the energy transition is at a critical inflection point. As we move from small scale to larger scale decarbonization projects, the industry faces new structural and financial barriers. ?? However, once these bigger projects launch, emissions reduction is compounded over time. The conclusion? Collaboration is key to achieving impact - not only within industry but with policy makers, banks, and academics.
