Exciting News! A strategic partnership agreement has been signed with AtkinsRéalis, under which they will acquire a 70% stake in David Evans Enterprises, Inc. (DEEI). The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2025. DEEI is the parent company of David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA), its original subsidiary. DEA has been providing exceptional services for over 48 years and is renowned for its innovative design services for transportation, water, land, energy, and marine infrastructure. This partnership aims to invest in enhancing DEA’s capabilities, deliver long-term value to clients and communities, and establish a significant leadership position in the Western US. DEEI and its subsidiaries, including DEA, will maintain their current leadership, company structure, and brands. DEA’s March Community Champion: Liz Felix! Liz Felix, an Engineer in our Water & Environmental Business Unit, is inspiring the next generation through STEM education! At Escalante Elementary’s STEM Day, Liz led hands-on engineering activities for the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) event. She guided students through the House of Cards challenge, where teams built and tested structures—some supporting over 30 weights and a soda can! As a bilingual professional, she ensured all students could engage fully, helping a Spanish-speaking team construct the strongest structure of the day. Happy National Surveyors Week! Precision is everything when it comes to maintaining and renovating the busiest locks in America! The DEA team provided survey support for Seattle’s historic Ballard Locks— the ongoing effort to replace machinery, prevent flooding, and maintain aging equipment while minimizing disruption. DEA partnered with Manson Construction and USACE to ensure the new gates were installed with utmost accuracy. Ramiro is a Civil Engineering student at Portland State University’s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science and serves as Co-Captain of the PSU American Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Canoe team. This unique competition challenges students to design, build, and race a canoe made of concrete—applying real-world engineering and project management skills while creating valuable industry connections. Exciting news from the City of Temecula! The new pickleball complex designed by DEA is officially open to the public! This project features 16 standard pickleball courts and a championship court that is fully accessible. To enhance the player and spectator experience, the facility includes shaded bleachers, picnic tables, and waste containers. The courts are illuminated for night play, and two parking lots are equipped with solar-powered lighting. The DEA team was responsible for developing conceptual plans and construction documents, providing geotechnical studies, survey, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and landscape architecture. We’re proud to have contributed to a project that promotes recreation and community engagement in Temecula! We're thrilled to welcome Jesse Zellmer, PE, as our new Energy Business Unit Market Leader focused on the Power market! Jesse holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states. At his previous company, Jesse was responsible for various leadership and business development roles, growing the team significantly and increasing annual revenue. At DEA, he'll lead efforts to expand our presence and provide multidisciplinary services for medium and high voltage power facilities and infrastructure.

Celebrating National Engineers Week with a Big Win! ACEC Oregon has named I-5 over 26th Ave. Bridge Replacement as Project of the Year at their annual Engineering Excellence Awards! In alignment with National Engineers Week’s "Design Your Future" theme, our dedicated team—Benjamin Hert, Joel Tubbs, Jenna Hori, and Travis Kinney—was recognized on January 30th in Portland for their outstanding work. The project’s remarkable 56-hour road closure minimized costs and enhanced worker safety, showcasing the power of engineering innovation. This prestigious award propels us to the ACEC National EEA competition, with results expected in May. Congratulations to the entire team and all our partners for their commitment to excellence.
