The first event in CMAP's three-part event series took place at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington D.C. on February 27th. The event, A Mental Health in All Policies Agenda for the New Administration, brought together a panel of leaders from government, foundations, and academia to discuss economic empowerment as a pillar of mental health in all policies agenda that can guide the next administration. Speakers discussed a number of topics, including the evidence around upstream factors that shape mental health, what role individuals play in shaping mental health outcomes, the role structural racism has played in mental illness and addiction crises, and what bipartisan approaches to addressing these issues could look like. Generations of residential segregation and disinvestment have harmed Black residents of Pittsburgh. Through Pittsburgh's Black Neighborhoods, a local, multi-sector team is working to redress these environmental injustices by putting decision-making power into the hands of community members. Through the Modernized Anti-racist Data Ecosystems (MADE) for Health Justice initiative, the Baltimore City Youth Data Hub is supporting youth ownership of data to help create a future shaped by their own needs and desires.
