dD+P Studio Member Feature: Heejung Kim “Having lived in various cities, I’ve realized that each urban space faces its own unique and complex challenges. With a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Korea, I moved to New York City to study urban design and explore solutions to these intricate urban issues. At the intersection of architecture and urban design, I aim to create thoughtful and conscious designs that foster positive environments for the people who inhabit them. This week, dD+P and the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District shared our work on the Sunnyside Vision Plan with Ya-Ting Liu and Maria Avila-Franklin. We are thankful for their engagement with this effort, as we work to develop this transformative plan to enrich Sunnyside's public spaces.

dD+P Studio Member Feature: Dan Beecher “I enjoy being on the design side of architecture and at a firm that values green design. Sustainability is what interests me most in architecture and initially brought me into the field. Previously, I worked in nonprofit as an auditor. While studying for my accounting/finance degrees, I stumbled upon LEED while taking a sustainability in finance course. I took an interest in the topic and it slowly led me to where I am now. My favorite thing about working at dD+P is knowing the work the studio does helps contribute to sustainable design." Dan is a Designer and has been working with dD+P since 2024. ??????? dD+P held a community engagement session with high school students at?Aviation Career and Technical Education High School?for the Sunnyside Public Realm Vision Plan! In the workshop, students explored a design process that incorporates generative AI. Students used an interactive worksheet to generate prompts, producing real-time visuals that allowed them to assemble collages representing their dream public spaces. These collages, made up of thematic design elements, provided designers with insights and data to inform the Vision Plan. ? The Sunnyside Public Realm Vision Plan is presented by?the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District?with support from?di Domenico + Partners?and the?Queens Lighting Collective. The project is produced in partnership with The Local Center, a collaboration between?Urban Design Forum?and the?Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development (ANHD). dD+P is happy to be back at Cornell University! ? ?? Rice Hall — dD+P is currently working on the rehabilitation of Rice Hall for Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The project builds upon a previously developed multi-phased critical maintenance plan to restore, renovate, and provide innovative instructional technologies, as well as upgrade the building's mechanical, electrical, data, and communications systems to better respond to the 21st century and beyond. The team is currently developing design strategies for the project. The facility contains approximately 30,000 SF of space that includes teaching laboratories, faculty offices, conference rooms, and a large seminar room. ? ?? Fernow Hall — dD+P led an architectural and engineering team in the rehabilitation of Cornell University’s historic Fernow Hall, as well as the design for its adjacent, LEED Gold Certified, state-of-the-art addition. The project was completed in 2016 and was a part of a multi-phased critical maintenance plan that addressed the need for an innovative instructional and research facility. Over the last decade, Fernow Hall's addition continues to function as an innovative facility, with the rain garden thriving and serving as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship. We are proud to have restored Fernow Hall so that it can continue to adapt to the changing educational needs of Cornell's community!
