This was a really good talk, especially enjoyed the parallels drawn between the software system and the organisation. I knew about Conway's law obviously but it doesn't end there. Interesting to think about how complexity and modularity manifest in the organisation.
It's our first event of 2025 and this one is online! We're joined by Sonya Natanzon and Vlad Khononov for their talk on Complexity & Modularity: the Yin and Yang of Socio-Technical Design. Join host Jacqui Read at 6pm GMT on 25th February, and ask your questions of Sonya and Vlad. Make sure to register via the link to receive your joining instructions, and stay tuned for more in-person and online events! ???????????????????? & ????????????????????: ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ???? ??????????-?????????????????? ???????????? Every software engineer and architect strives to design modular software systems and avoid complexity. Yet, frequently, the outcome is the opposite: what promised to be an elegant, well-thought architecture results in another big ball of mud. Why does this pattern persist and how do we learn not to repeat it? In this talk, we will explore the nature of modularity and complexity, including their surprising similarities. You will learn what forces drive software design towards modularity or complexity, and the effects these forces have on your organizational design. Understanding the relationship between social and technical design principles will make you more effective in architecting systems that thrive over time. We are pleased to announce our next in-person event in London on Tuesday 8th April. Join Diana Montalion and Cat Morris for ?????? ???????????????? ??????: ???????????????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????????? ?????????? "In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, the friction between product and technology teams often feels inevitable. Misaligned mindsets, priorities, and contextual biases create obstacles that slow progress, stifle innovation, breed frustration and encourage blame." Many thanks for the support of The Ministry of Software Design for organising and to Policy Expert for sponsoring. #softwaredevelopment #domaindrivendesign #softwarearchitecture

Today is the last day of CFPs for DDD South West's 20th anniversary conference. It is a free #softwaredevelopment conference and a great reason to visit Bristol UK this April. Although in this case DDD doesn't stand for #domaindrivendesign I m hopeful that we can get some of the community together at some point during the event. Get in touch if you would be interested in saying hi and talking about systems and #softwaredesign. https://lnkd.in/ecw3v2S6

So how's your 2025 going? Well, 2 weeks in my 2025 has taken a turn to the unexpected. While talking to Nick Tune recently I ended up volunteering myself to take over the reigns at DDD London, a technology meetup for the Domain-driven design community. I am now the meetup's main organiser of the programme ahead. I have always been impressed with the DDD community's focus on people and practice, not technologies and products. Creating great software doesn't start in your database or cloud provider, it starts with understanding your users and business objectives. I am therefore thrilled to get the opportunity to contribute to the community in such an important way, and hope that we can both increase expertise and broaden adoption through our events. As you might expect, Jacqui Read (co-trouble-maker at The Ministry of Software Design) will also be supporting. We Look forward to continuing business as usual and hopefully bringing some new formats to our London community. ??
