Making San Francisco a great place to grow up!

关于我们

The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF) brings together City government, schools, and community-based organizations to help our city’s children and youth, birth to age 24, and their families, lead lives full of opportunity, fulfillment, and happiness. The people of San Francisco have made a unique commitment to our community by dedicating funding to vital services. We are committed to allocating the City's investment in children, youth, and families through strategic grant making processes to provide equitable and holistic services. We, with the support of our partners, strive to make San Francisco a great place to grow up. DCYF acknowledges that we carry out our work on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the original inhabitants and stewards of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the government agency that stewards the Children and Youth Fund, we accept the responsibility that comes with resources derived from property taxes upon unceded and colonized land. We recognize the history and legacy of the Ramaytush Ohlone as integral to how we strive to make San Francisco a great place for life to thrive and children to grow up.

Exciting news from the DCYF Family: this afternoon, Mayor London Breed announced that Sherrice Dorsey-Smith is now the Acting Director of DCYF! Acting Director Dorsey-Smith shared this in a message to our grantee partners: "Thanks to the incredible example Dr. Maria Su set for me, thanks to the remarkable team I am inheriting at DCYF, and thanks to our well established parterships with our grantees, City departments, and SFUSD, I feel fully prepared, honored, humbled, and excited to become the new leader of the department." Dr. Maria Su had this to say in the Mayor's press release, and the DCYF staff agrees wholeheartedly: Sherrice's "extensive experience, deep knowledge, and dedication to DCYF’s goals make her uniquely qualified to lead the department. DCYF will be in excellent hands with Sherrice at the helm, and I am fully confident in her ability to continue advancing DCYF’s mission to support our children, youth, and families. Under Sherrice’s leadership, DCYF will continue to flourish and create lasting change for the San Francisco community." We are so pleased that Sherrice has stepped in as the Acting Director of our department, and we're proud to have her as our leader as we work together to make San Francisco a great place to grow up! Today is a special day all across the country: the 25th annual?#LightsOnAfterschool Celebration! Lights On Afterschool draws attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students and working families, and sends a powerful message that millions more children and youth across the country need quality afterschool programs. For the third year in a row, DCYF, our grantees, and our City Department partners celebrated Lights On Afterschool by participating in the Lights On Afterschool Lightbulb Challenge. In the article, we've compiled Lightbulb Challenge photos from more than 50 #SanFrancisco agencies! We would like to thank all of the students, youth service workers, volunteers, and City employees who took part in Lights On Afterschool 2024. Your partnership and support today - and every day - shines light on the critical role afterschool programs play in making San Francisco a great place to grow up! https://lnkd.in/gNeiUBd7
