And the project team behind Timberview VIII, an eight-story, affordable housing development, believes our industry can help change that number by introducing a sustainable and innovative material option – mass timber. AEC thought leaders and doers will once again return for the annual International Mass Timber Conference, happening in Portland, OR, March 25-27; and DCI’s Sustainability Engineer & Senior Project Manager, Arizona Dabrusin, PE, will be there to present a unique case study that examined the feasibility of a seven-story mass timber residential building in Harlem, NY. This presentation will deep dive on four different mass timber floor assemblies and how switching from concrete to a mass timber/light-gauge steel hybrid structure helped the team achieve significant embodied carbon and cost reductions. We are proud to announce that we have three staff members taking on new leadership roles at DCI Engineers. Both Nina Munj, PE in our San Francisco office and Kyle Cossette in our Spokane office, are now Associate Principals, and Sam Shastany, also in Spokane, is an Associate. These three have shown a dedication to DCI’s values, providing their clients with high quality service, innovation and value on every project they work on. In their new roles, they will take on greater leadership responsibilities in their respective offices and departments. This includes working closely with new engineers to better train them, as well as with our clients to further DCI’s reputation as a top notch engineering and design firm. The Old Morris Highway Bridge needed to be replaced when a flood washed out the vital piece of civilian and commercial infrastructure. The Bridge spanned a small stream in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, on Muscogee Nation land. DCI worked to anchor the bridge with cast-in-place concrete spread footings so it will withstand floods in the future. The bridge replacement project won the 2024 Innovative Bridge Project of the Year - Under $10 Million category at the 2024 World Bridge Engineering Conference. The Conference is an annual gathering held at Florida International University in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and 33 State Departments of Transportation. A DCI project won an award at the 21st Annual International Interior Design Association's Inawards! The Blackfoot building’s lobby Tenant Improvement project, which DCI provided structural engineering services on, won the Inworkplace Micro Award, which recognizes quality, efficient design in corporate and not-for-profit workspaces between 13k and15k-sf. DCI worked with project architect IA Interior Architects and fc STUDIO inc on this remodel, which expanded the lobby’s height, added new amenities like lounge space and new stairs to reach the lobby’s upper perimeter levels and hung new equipment from the ceiling. We’re so happy to be part of this team, helping to transform one of Seattle’s iconic skyscrapers into a welcoming environment for the folks who work in it!
